2 Drives: RAID1 or separate Audio

Hello!
I am building a new computer.
Right now I keep sonar on my C: drive, and have a dedicated drive for Audio.

The drives are OLD, and on their way out.
I record mostly vocals - I do not record from simultaneous sources.
I am building:
Intel duo dual core 3GHZ
4gb dual channel ram
2 SATA 500GB WD drives (BLACK not the green) at 7200RPM.

I am thinking about using the 2 new drives in a RAID 1 (mirror) array.
This would mean that I am essentially using only one drive for everything.
I do back up to an external hard drive, but I like the idea of mirroring for
data security!

Would this slow my recording down?
How necessary is the dedicated audio hard drive these days?

Thank you for any and all advice!

In your scenario, you aren't recording much data (the Mirror wouldn't impede performance).
Having said that, if you do regular backups... the Mirror really isn't necessary.
