Sonar 8.5 tutorial video
I love my sonar 8.5 but when I download the streamwork tutorial it suck the scottish accent was confusing so I beg cakewalk can we get Brandon or Robin Kelly to make a video tutorial for 8.5, those two guys are awesome. Just make a tutorial and have one of the two show how they recorded, mixed, etc. a song how they tweaked effect and final mix and master I would so pay for that. A good song to do is the making of Cori Yarckin's hit single, "Everything You Said'

Gah, this is just plain wrong. Stuart's accent is thick, but he speaks with more clarity than most people do. You can even tell he's making a point to annunciate his words. I find it well done, and not hard to follow at all! The only gripe with this tutorial video is that it's mostly talking and not enough visual examples (walkthroughs).

Robin Kelly [Cakewalk ] The one is Brandon's 8.5 and VS-700 demo where he builds up a song from scratch. http://www.youtube.com/pr...CCA85720/0/TRm9EMYKt1A OK, call me dumb, but that is a (30 second) part 1 of 15. Where the heck are the links to parts 2-15?

You just need to become accustomed to the accent. Watch an episode of Taggart and Rab c Nesbitt to warm up and you'll be fine.

Yeah I gotta also comment on those Instructional Videos. The accent is so thick and I find they are hard to understand. It just takes away from the learning process as I am listening hard and trying to figure out what the guy is actually saying. Nobody can help where they were born and how they talk - it's not a personal thing - it's just that most of us are used to proper grammer without the accent. Simple! Hopefully Cakewalk will do more of these Instructional Videos in the future with any person at the mic.

Are you guys talking about Streamworks Audio's "Complete Sonar 8.5" video? Because I don't hear any Scottish accent. Are you talking about 8.0? That said, I've got to tell you, I purchased the "Complete Sonar 8.5" thing, and it's utterly useless at this point, because it uses some Adobe Air player, which won't let me see the bottom of the interface, and won't let me resize it. So I can't reach the Play/Stop/Chapters controls. I emailed Streamworks and they responded: " With some of the newer videos we are using a cross platform player (that uses the Adobe AIR Runtime). They are set to be HD 720p and yes cannot be resized. If you have Quicktime you can use it to open the mp4 file directly - which would allow you to resize the video, however there are no menus to allow you to quickly navigate the video chapters. This mp4 file is located in the same directory that the video player is installed." To which I replied: " I don't see any mp4 file. Here's what's in my SWA Complete Sonar 8.5 folder: contents (folder) META-INF (folder) resources (folder) mimetype (file) setup.iss (ISS file) SWA Complete Sonar 8.5 (application) swaVideoSonar8_5 (SWF file) unins000.dat (DAT file) unins000 (application) Meanwhile, the folder created during extraction/unzipping just has Setup and a DAT file in there. I tried opening the SWF file with Quicktime, but I got an error saying "Error 2048. Couldn't open the file swaVideoSonar8_5 because it is not a file that Quicktime understands." VLC Player can't open it, Windows Media Player can't open it... And really, what's the point if I can't navigate through the video anyway. I'd rather figure out how to get the Air player to not be so big, so I can see its control buttons. Surely I'm not the only one who can't see the bottom of the player, even after dragging the top of the player as far up as it can go(?) Is it possibly a Vista thing? I have Vista Home Premium (64-bit OS)" To which they replied: " Look in the contents folder... what files are in there?" To which I replied: " The only thing in the contents folder is a DAT file: 072cef7de4c98c0911d845c936a21b86.dat....... Thanks for any more help." To which they replied: ...with nothing. Never heard back from them after that. That was February 26th. They sure kept my money though. - Bob K. (just to be clear, I can open/start the video with the Adobe Air player, but I can't navigate anywhere. Have to just sit there and watch it from start to finish, and feverishly take notes, which is ridiculous.)

Cheers Mike Hey thanks Mike. Turns out that's the same DAT file that was in my Contents folder, which I told Streamworks about. No idea why they didn't then respond with the simple instruction you gave. Did they assume I would just know to rename the file to .mov? Whatever. At least I can navigate through it now, using VLC Player (Quicktime still won't open it). For chapters, I'll have to just write down the times in a notebook or something, so I can jump to them manually with the play slider... Jeez. Is this how others are doing it? Are you guys able to use the included Adobe Air Player? What are your screen settings? I've tried adjusting all sorts of things, to no avail. The chapter controls are always below my viewable screen area... But thanks again Mike for the workaround.

Huffy - Nothing to thank for, in fact it was posted by SWA a while ago, just glad I could help. I have no chapter selection either, and I completely gave up on the Adobe Air thing and the install. I still think it was a mistake by SWA to create it this way, and I still can't understand why they don't make the downloads in chapters, that way the download could be done as and when you want to. Robin Kelly [Cakewalk ] Post 16 and 17 have the correct playlist links. Here they are again to save scrolling. :-) Robin Thanks Robin! And, if I may, kudos to you guys. I know you've taken some heat for lack of videos and quality of videos and content of videos, but those new ones, especially Brandon's series, are really excellent. Seeing a process worked though was very educational on all levels (I even picked up a few tips). So hats off to you guys and keep 'em coming!
