Is this the new Project 5.........?
I thought this might be worth a new thread.......... http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3564186 Quote:- If you are good at finding software bugs… If you can write clear, concise, step-by-step bug reports that can be easily repeated… If you have strong opinions about the way DAW software should operate… If you would like to have the chance to see cutting edge Cakewalk software before it's available to anyone else… If you have lots of free time… We want to hear from you! Please go to http://www.cakewalk.com/beta/forms to fill out a beta tester application. Please note that we have a limited number of slots available on the beta teams, and we cannot guarantee that everyone who applies will get a spot.

in the bug fix list for Rapture 1.2 (that's ready for download now) it lists a bug that was fixed because it wasn't working in Project 5.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but when they needed beta testers for the 2.5 update for P5, didn't they advertise it on this particular board? That they are not doing so this time would suggest that it is not a P5 update - or that they are tired of our complaining about their indifference and don't want us involved The only thing is, it does seem a bit early for Sonar 9 beta testing...

This is exciting! But I'm inclined to agree with Rob (xylyx) on this one. I recall that Cake went to KVR looking for beta testers when Rapture for Mac was in the oven. It would be totally cool to see P5v3 for Mac as well, but not likely I guess. Can't see why they would not ask P5 veterans to test a beta. Who else know it as well as we do (well, some more than others like me)? I bet this is for that monster synth that was hinted about a long time ago. Was it "monster" or "super" synth? Anyhow, something new is coming out of the Baker's Oven. I can't what for a bite. Kind regards, tecknot edit: typo

From the description I don't think it's a new synth. They didn't specify an OS, so this could be a cross-platform product. I would hope this would be P5v3. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be some kind of DJ product though.

As wild as this speculation is, it gave me a vague glimmer of hope that Project 5 is not DOA.

The alledged supersynth was Beatscape from what I've picked up from this and that. Didn't quite turn out to be such (tho I like BS I haven't really used it for a project). A P5 w/ mac capablity would be a nice addition to their line up (and PC, of course). It is probably a synth, tho, since Cake is due. Maybe a revamped Beatscape since they've already got the work in it? Or an audio editor, a lá Sound Forge, which is missing from the lineup. Basically, I don't know and am only peeing in the dark. @

Beatscape was a cut down version of whatever the superwhizzysynthibeatplugin was supposed to be, from my understanding. My guess is that the original idea has long since been binned, potentially seeing light in smaller, cut down forms...

Yea, that is what I gathered from forum talk. Beatscape didn't turn out to be such a supersynth. Maybe they are updating it to be what it was supposed to be, but maybe not. I don't know but it was a good guess. @

Let me repeat the quote.... "If you have strong opinions about the way DAW software should operate…" That does not sound like a synth. Or even a Sonar update. Whatever it is, I hope it has a groove matrix and is very easy to use. I have a strong opinion about that.
I have authentic analog drum machine samples.

Guys, it's already May. Time to beta test the 2009 Sonar subscription upgrade. Available in September/October. New exciting features announced at NAMM 2010, etc. You know the drill. Nothing changes. Another $180 bucks plus the $30 or so for Sonar 9 Power book. No thanks. Time for something new. Project5 v3 could be that. But alas, not a prayer of that happening.

ORIGINAL: Nick P plus the $30 or so for Sonar 9 Power book I don't have any of the books, but from what I gather (as an outsider looking in), if you already have one you don't need a newer one, and I doubt you'll need SONAR 9 Power unless SONAR 9 is very strikingly different. Like... if you have SONAR 7 Power, I don't think you need SONAR 8 Power.... just like if you had SONAR 6 Power, I don't think you needed SONAR 7 Power.

I was going to submit one, but after i got done filling everything out, I clicked next, and it error-ed out, telling me I didn't fill in all required fields. It also told me to click the back button, and in doing so, it decided to erase all of my info I had just typed in. so I said Fck, ...and proceeded to close out the browser window.... .

You need the new Power book in order to cover the new features. Although by January usually the Power book is outdated since Cakewalk throws in a bunch of new features at NAMM. So far Scott has chosen not to publish online, so I don't think there are any updates to cover the newer features. Kind of weird in this day and age. He is worried about piracy, but I note that so many other books have online or e-versions. Especially ones like this where the technology and feature-set change so often. You really need to keep your book updated via online means.

ORIGINAL: Nick P You need the new Power book in order to cover the new features. Eh... I don't know. I don't think you do. There's the manual or online help for that. If you already know how to use SONAR, all you need to know about them is what they are and where to find them, and it only takes a thimble-full of creativity to figure out how to integrate it in your current workflow. It definitely doesn't necessitate getting a whole new book. To me it seems like a massive waste of time. It's not like Cakewalk completely rewrites SONAR with every new version, and as such, it's not like the SONAR Power books are completely rewritten with every new version.

P5... P5... P5... where did you go? Doubt this is a P5 update. Sonar gets a yearly treatment... even their entry-level app just got a new release (for the sub-$50 audio folks)... complete with a little sample player that acts almost exactly like Kore Player and frankly looks to have better patch management than either Dim Pro or Rapture). It's probably a home studio update, or a new app to fill some $50 mark they don't already fill (man, they have a lot of apps)... maybe Guitar-something-or-other. Not that I'm jaded ... but on my new machine (8-cores) the single-core nature of P5 has been brought front-and-center... it just can't even begin to compete with maintained DAWs on modern machines. I always preferred it to Live, but not on this machine... it's night and day. And that's even with Live's crap core management (at least it's trying). Good for editing midi... I guess... at this point. Pretty much stopped doing that though. I swear, P5 (and the Sonar 7 patch life) have radically redefined how I feel about Cake. Enough that I'm skipping S8 for that reason alone. That'll teach 'um... probably had to lay someone off without my $129. Honestly, they need to pull something off that's NOT Sonar and that's pretty impressive, or I'm starting to view Cake post-Roland as a radically different beast... which makes me a bit sad, since I actually picked them because they had good product support. - zevo

Nice screen shot, B... Am I the only one thinking it's the Cake version of Kore player? Look at that patch management. Seriously... that's how it's done, IMHO. Let me tag stuff in several different ways (that I define) that let me drill down to this or that anytime I want in plain English. Kore got a couple of things right (and a couple of things wrong), and this (to me) is squarely in the "right" camp. Is this what Rene is working on? Come to think of it... where is he these days? He used to post periodically, and I know I'm out-of-the-loop, but I haven't seen as much of him as I used to. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, though... I stopped coming around once the "da*n you if you dare criticize Cake or Windows Vista or whatever" crew took over the Sonar community... I HOPE they're working on something cool, but at this point I've been getting a lot of non-Cake kit that does what it should, is properly supported, and is cross-platform (something I've come to expect from most everything these days... as a given... reality... as it were). - zevo

Nope, it looks very much alike. And you're not the only one who's noticed the absence of Mr. Ceballos. It looks like he hasn't posted anything in about a year.
