[NEWS] Awesome! NEW, NVIDIA driver 185.85. Highly recommended!

[NEWS] Awesome!!!! The NEW, NVIDIA driver 185.85. Highly recommended!!!
All clicks and Pops disappeared referred to Graphic / Audio in SONAR 8, producer 64bit!

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_185.85_whql.html

I use a NVIDIA 9600GT in Dual mode (2x full HD 1920x1200, 24HD screens) and I have always used Maximum setting on everything:
Ambient Occlusion = on
Antialiasing Gamma correction = on

Anisotropic filtering = 16x
Antialiasing - Mode = Override any application setting
Antialiasing – Setting = 16xQ
Antialiasing- Transparency = Supersampling
Force mipmaps = Trilnear
Texture filtering = Clamp
Texture filtering – Quality = High Quality
Threaded Optimization = Auto
Triple buffering = on
Vertical sync = use the 3D application setting

Just make sure you UPDATE! I recommend everyone to do so, works without any glitch this fantastic new Driver in VISTA 64bit! You'll get better performance too! The same driver 185.85 are available for XP too! Also a totally new control-panel with new functions included!

Important! Remember to uninstall the OLD driver before you install the NEW one!!

Best Regards
Freddie

    Thanks dude

I run a GTX 9800 on my gaming system and a GT 8600 on my studio rig so I will definitely be downloading that new driver as I believe it covers both cards.

    Cheers

Well, I went ahead and installed these newest drivers and now I've got problems. My M-Audio 4x4 Anniversary MIDI interface is being found intermittently, I'm having trouble with MIDI input when the interface is found and my monitor display turned off some features because of incompatibility problems. My system was running perfectly fine until I updated the video drivers. I de-installed and re-installed the MIDIsport drivers but that did fix anything, now I'm about to see if I can do a system restore. I've always had good luck with all the new NVIDIA drivers but something sure went wrong after this update. Well...something must have really gone wrong because System Restore is not even coming up on the screen even though Vista tells me it is running. Ughhhh...

UPDATE: Okay, System Restore finally appears on the screen after nearly 5 minutes of waiting. The restore rolled back my system prior to the new driver install, so I checked and sure enough the system is back to using 182.08 drivers. I'll let you know later if my MIDI interface is working well again.

Did you uninstall the NVIDIA drivers before installing the New Drivers?
Also users need to be very careful.

The NVIDIA Unistall program will give options to uninstall all drivers, not just the video drivers.
Someone could get themselves into big trouble by a simple mouse click.

Be sure to select only the video driver when uninstalling.

I think you may be on to something. It's been a while since I installed NVIDIA drivers and I just ran the new driver installer without uninstalling the older drivers - at the time I was thinking that the installer automatically uninstalled the older drivers, is this not the case? I'm having a complete brain-freeze at the moment because I'm just trying to get SONAR working like it had been last night. I may need to re-try the new driver install but making sure to uninstall the old drivers first since that seems to be a requirement to possible success.

As I said before! Important! Remember to uninstall the OLD driver before you install the NEW one!!

    Still strange problem?

    Do like this now!

    1. Uninstall the MIDI driver!
    2. Shut down and make cooled boot!
    3. Uninstall all NVIDIA drivers! There are 2 drivers!!!
    4. Shut down and make cooled boot!

    5. Install NVIDA driver!
    6. Shut down and make a cooled boot!
    7. Set your NVIDIA settings!
    8. Shut down and make a cooled boot!
    9. Check all working graphic driver!
    10. Shut down and make a cooled boot!

    11. Install the MIDI driver again.
    12. Shut down and make a cooled boot!
    13. Open SONAR 8

That should work for you! Good luck!

Well, I followed your instructions Freddie and I'm still having MIDI issues as I've reported on the forums. Something's not right but I'm not sure its the video drivers. It may be that some component of the drivers or some other device is causing issues so I'll have to keep looking.

Every time I update a video driver it screws up the computer. No kidding! I find it amaizing that the developers can't figure out how to update thier own previous software. The end user should never have to manually unistall a previous version first or your computer gets hosed.

It hasn't been that way for as long as I've been using nVidia cards (three years or so). With graphics drivers, always uninstall the old ones first and reboot. You're asking for trouble if you don't.

Files that are in use by the system cannot be overwritten, or deleted.
Video drivers are system critical and are locked by the operating system when in use.
The user must uninstall the old drivers first to be certain all old files are removed.

    The process is like this:
    1. Uninstall the video drivers.
    2. The system will reboot
    3. Upon reboot - windows default generic video drivers are loaded.
    4. You can then install the new video drivers with confidence that all older files are replaced.

If you do not do this, you may end up with a mix of old and new driver files on your system, which will cause instability, and system crashes.

This should also be the procedure for audio drivers.

Keeping a system stable should be our primary concern. This may be a minor pain to do it this way, but it helps to ensure that driver files are updated properly.
