UA 710 twinfinity

Anybody used a Universal Audio 710 or the Summit 2BA-221? Both have tube and solid state blend, they are both in the same price range. Both companies have good reputations. I haven't heard either mic pre so just wondering what your individual experiences might be with either of them. I primarily use a tlm 103 for vocals and sm81 for acoustic guitar.

Not sure if I can provide much feedback as I just got the Twin Finity last week and only used it on one session.

Let me start by saying that I hadn't owned a tube pre-amp until this guy and I like it a lot. The tube side is very warm and has some very nice harmonic distortion when I recorded an acoustic guitar this weekend. It's definitely flattering the recording because of it. The solid state side is very clean and when the two are mixed together provide a bit of the "best of both worlds". Although driving the solid state side provides a nasty distortion as compare to the grind from the tube side. Of course, no solid state pre-amp provides that.

So, I think I made a good purchase. I can't comment on the Summit as I've never had a chance to try it out.

I think SOS and Tape Op (or was it EM) had reviews. SOS liked it and no real faults have been talked about with what I read. $750 for a preamp - it ought to be pretty good. And it is flexible, which is the real selling point.
