Notebook Computer Hijinks!

Hi...let me try to make this simple:

1. Presario v6500 Notebook PC (Vista)
2. I split the HD into two so that I could put XP Pro on one partition so I could use the network at my work.
3. System boots up as XPpro. Don't know how to make it boot as Vista
4. Don't know how to go about creating recovery discs from the (still accessible) vista drive
4. Now I want to completely restore Vista back onto the laptop.
5. But I did not make recovery discs when I bought the laptop. (Well, I did...but I lost disc 2...it gets to 54% building the recovery then asks for disc 2)
6. I will not pay for recovery discs.
7. I want to completely get it back to factory default.
8. Apparently it CAN be done from the HD...but I can't launch anything Vista style because I don't know how (or if) I can still boot in Vista.

9. Ok...I got it to do a system recovery by pressing f11...whole process went off without a hitch but I get a fail when it goes to boot up....says it will try to repair...but fails at that too.
10. So basically I have this bastardized notebook computer with a HD that was split/ partitioned...Vista on one, XP Pro on the other...now I can't boot at all.

11. Is there anyway I can get it back to factory conditions properly?

So...can anyone help me out?

It's no big deal...I just wanna try to do it, for a bit of a weekend project

thanks

Use your Vista disk, let it boot to the disk, choose "repair your computer", select the OS in the menu, click next, there's a new menu, and on the bottom there is a selection for command prompt, type in "Bootrec.exe /FixMbr". There is a space between the c and the /. The first disk you have should be able to do this. When your done you can erase the XP partition through disk management. HTH

I was afraid of that, is there any way to get a hold of a Vista disk, any will work, I really hate that companies are doing this with their install disks, instead off giving you an actual Vista disk.

I just asked a friend and he sent me this link, said he used it, although safe, you have to use a torrent client to download it. http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/

there may be some where else to get this image, but I wouldn't post something that I don't know is safe. HTH

Yeah, it's just to recover the boot sec. in case you can't boot into Vista, since apparently the image disks that HP and others vendors let us make do not allow us to do repairs.
