Sonar not recognizing Sound Forge
I have seen other posts saying that Sound Forge is supposed to show up in the Tools menu, but it doesn't, and I also don't have access to its plugins in Sonar. I use the Plug-in Manager to scan for VSTs, but nothing gets added either then or when Sonar scans on startup. Any clues? Do I need to edit the registry? That's something I don't really know anything about.

After you scan the plugins you need to add them. You can use Sonar Utils to add Sound Forge to your Tools menu. best regards, mike

Thanks, man. I'm away from my Sonar right now, but that sounds like something I can figure out, or at least it will be in Sonar Power. I'm looking forward to playing around with some Sound Forge processes. Having to export my Sonar tracks into SF and then re-import them after processing just wasn't something I really wanted to do.

Thanks to all for input, but I'm not quite there yet. OK, I scanned for VST plugins in the plugin manager, but I guess I don't know how to "add" them. All it did when I clicked on "add" was put whatever plugin was highlighted from the list on the top left in a little box on the right. I don't think that was helpful because the list on the top left never changed when I scanned for plugins so whatever went into the box was always a plugin that already shows up when I look for a plugin. I found nothing helpful in the Sonar documentation. Admittedly I haven't checked Sonar Power yet and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the answer is in there. I did download Sonar Utils - but I worked late last night and it was about midnight when I downloaded it, so I didn't really spend any time trying to figure it out. I did see that Sound Forge was already listed under Tools, which I don't quite comprehend. Anyway, working late is not in my future tonight, so I expect I will have time to dig in, look things up, and hopefully figure this all out thanks to all your help.

Sorry, but I'm still needing help on this. I still have no idea how to "add" a plug-in through plug-in manager. I've fiddled with plug-in manager quite a bit and it doesn't add these Sound Forge plug-in. Also, Sonar Utils continues to show Sound Forge on my Tools menu - however, it is NOT in the Tools menu in Sonar. I can't find any documentation for Sonar Utils, and really don't know what, if anything, I am supposed to do with it to get SF to show up in the Sonar Tools menu. Is it possible that this has something to do with my file organization? Sonar (and Sound Forge) are installed on my internal drive, but all my plug-ins, project, and audio files are on an external firewire drive. At any rate, I have entered every folder where I can find plug-ins into the plug-in manager for search, and they all get searched, but still the SF plug-ins don't show up. I guess one problem is that, although I can certainly find SF files, I don't find a folder for VST plug-ins. Any help would be much appreciated. As of now, my expensive SF software is completely useless because I can only use it as a stand-alone app, which means I have to export my tracks to audio just to even get them into it, and that's just no good.

I don't have Sonar Utils installed so I can't help by checking for you but look for an add switch there. Also you need to make sure SONAR utils is working on your v8 install... just in case you have some older v7 v6 etc installs. Plug in Manager. Do you know that you actually have to save the list the appears over on the right side? You have to name it and save it and load it in SONAR tyo use the modified list that you may have added the plugins too. But, I'm not sure what you are saying... can your plugin manager see the plugins after a VST Scan? Or are you saying the you can not see the plugins with Plugin Manager? Also which Sound Forge plughins are you looking for. The so called mastering plug ins by Izotope-Ozone-MAudio are only available withing Sound Forge. No other app can use them. There are a lot of "Sound Forge" EFX that are available to SONAR. I have SF9 as well and can see the ones I expect too. best regards, mike

Yes, I can never see the Sound Forge plug-ins - and I'm talking about any plug-ins at all, not just the Ozone plug-ins - in plug-in manager. I've added the folders in Sound Forge to the scan list and scanned them, but I never get new plug-ins when I scan. Also, I have re-installed both Sonar and Sound Forge multiple times trying to get this going. With Sonar Utils, I think you may be onto something because I had Power Studio on this computer before I got Producer 8. I know there's still a Power Studio folder in the registry, but I don't consider myself an "advanced user" so I generally don't mess with the registry. Do you know off the top of your head how to tell Sonar Utils which version to use? Thanks very much for your reply.

Sound Forge is a 32bit program. It's plug ins will not show if your running Sonar in 64bit. If you're already running Sonar in 32bit mode Right click in an Effects Bin on an audio track - go Audio Fx - go Plugin Layouts (at the top) - check Default all Plugins ******** If you're using Win 7 and want to use the External Encoder Configuration Utility to configure Lame or another Encoder, you'll need to run your program as an administrator to keep the changes you make. Right click on the program icon, in properties/compatibility set 'privilege level' to run as administrator. Otherwise any changes you make will not be saved. Running as administrator might result inbv warnings when you start the program .. "do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer" ... For programs like Sonar or Sound Forge this refers only to changes in the settings for each program, not the computer O/S. Click yes. (To change these warning settings, click on the message bottom right "Change when these notifications appear") OR go Control Panel/User Accounts/Change User Account Control Settings. Tip when installing programs, right click on the installation icon, in properties/compatibility set 'privilege level' to run as administrator.
