Slight lag during playback in SONAR

Hi.

Whenever I play back midi/audio inside of sonar 7(se) the playback bar freezes momentarily, but the audio is still in sync. Any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks

what are you using for the output of your MIDI?
what is your soundcard latency set to?
are you starting your project at measure 1? if so, MIDI typically takes a little time to start up - give it at least one measure before the actual start of your project. you can edit that portion out when exporting

I'm using an ASIO4ALL driver with no latency compensation, the defualt mixing latency is 11.6msec. Audio ouptut is ASIO4ALL v2 HD Audio output 1, and I can start it anywhere in the project, the same thing happens.

Does anyone else experience this at all, or have any idea as to what might be causing it? I somehow doubt it's related to latency.

And I'm using Vista, this problem didn't occur on my other machine, could this be related to the drivers in any way? Or is it a software fault?

Could it be the playback buffers loading? What are your buffers set to? How long is momentarily ?

i have this problem. I compensate by just starting playback a measure earlier.
Its like it takes a second for the video memory to catch up.

Playback buffers are set to the default level of 256KB, and it happens for little over a second.

Anyone follow up on this question recently? I've been experiencing something similar, but even more strange.
I have a brand new Dell Studio 17.  i7 processor, 6gb ram, 7200spin HD, 1gb nvidea graphics card, Windows 7.    Using Sonar 6 Producer.  I installed it in 32 bit mode because my Waves plugins wouldn't play nice with the 64bit Sonar.

I have tried playback with both my Fireface 800 running ASIO and the internal audio using ASIO 4 All drivers. same results either way.

in BOTH cases when I begin playback nothing happens for about 1-2 seconds.  then the "now" line begins to move forward with no audio playback.  after 1-2 seconds of that, the audio begins from back where the "now" line began, and the "now" line stops moving completely.  Eventually they get in-sync, but this is obviously useless performance for fine-editing or multiple reviews of a small section of a project.
The same software never did anything like this on my previous laptop which had vastly inferior specs all the way around.

    Any thoughts?

HAHA, thanks Lance! Was that specifically aimed at the fact that a new Dell Laptop doesn't have a pause/break key, or is there a real function that you were getting at?

this happens to me also..BUT>!!..ive also experienced it on homestudio 7 xl..so i think its my computer not the software..but there has to ba a way to improve the lag..i think its buffer size..try lowering it from 220 to 120(bont go any lower...didnt work with me..buyt i saw it on a cakewalk tutorial

latency is due mainly to your soundcard and its inferior drivers.  if you are using your onboard soundcard then you need to upgrade to get lower latency.

I've always had that issue and write it off as crappy Video card and drivers, not audio.
Sonar always takes a second to fire up, think about it. Hitting the play button must send a million zillion little ones and zeros to your CPU, Memory, Video and audio. Sure there's buffers but a lot is happening at that point so I personally expect my computer to "think" before it moves. And it seem the minute they build a faster computer, they design an OS that slows it down again. I glad I missed out on Vista.

no, the conexant soundcards are designed just for playback of mp3s and windows sounds.  it's not difficult to upgrade your soundcard for a laptop - you need a USB soundcard.  check my website for some recommendations.
