Asio/WDM RE: Dela1010
Anyone know if I should use ASIO or the WDM with the M Audio 1010? WHat is better? I don't want to test and guess. I just want the one that works best with that card. I LIKE this card quite a bit for the $. I have an A8V Athlon dual 64 and SCSI Ultra WIde 2s and .......a slight limp when I walk

I'm having no issues with the Vista 64 ASIO drivers with a total round trip latency of 6.1 msec

I don't want to test and guess. There is no guessing if you test both. Test both and look to see what perofroms better. run some big projects at some low, med, and high latecies and see what has the better performance

That's what I was trying to avoid CJay. I have all these other projects on other drives and saved on dual DVDs and just don't have that kind of time. Looking for the short cut Dude, you know me by now. Not really looking for short cut, that is lame. Just don't have the space and time. Here is a dumb ass question....If I record in one set of drivers, say ASIO, I can still LATER PLAY IT BACK with WDM? Right? SO I could just wing it. I was just hoping someone KNEW the 1010 and WinXP Pro and if one really stood out better. SONARS CATS ROCK......get used to the idea!

I always found the ASIO drivers were better than WDM with the 1010. Also, record offset detection is automatic with ASIO, which makes life easier.

Well , I have a couple things to write you. # 1 thank you for the reply. THat is an actual answer. I just don't have the time to TRY every song I have to see ASIO/WDM or WMD for that matter LOL. So I'm going to do the ASIO. Next, I checked out your songs. Nice work. I will NOT comment here for I am an experienced producer and shall not make remarks in THIS forum. Other than to say I did like the "last day of the year" for many reasons. I would have produced it differently whilst STILL maintaining your true efforts. Last, funny enough, I was just asked by a friend where I would like to go on an extended vacation. I informed her that where I live (been all over) is where I live and vacation always. San Diego, (originally from Cleveland) toured ALL USA and Canada. Nothing finer. But I DID answer her if ANYWHERE other.......New Zealand! Damn, I read where you are from and it was New Zealand. I was just writing her today. SO thanks and keep on plugging away. I'd like to produce one of your songs just to do it to see what you would think. Not a big ego here on my view, just a different take on what you did. See you were in the top 100 for that tune. Rock on or we'll kill ya, Thanks for your time regarding this. jv

Hey, thanks for the comments :). I need to mention that those songs were one or two take efforts and we didn't get to put the time into them that we would have liked. My own humble opinion is that "On My Side" was probably my best effort in regards to production. Our band "semiNAKED" is but a slice of history now, as people have gone their separate ways, but if you'd like to take a shot at re-producing one of our songs, just let me know which one via PM and we'll set it up. And yes, New Zealand is a great place to live. My Wife, kids, and I have recently moved out of the city to a rural block and love it. If you ever make it over here, I have a spare room :) Bill.

I am having good success with WDM on my 1010 LT. The ASIO isn't bad but multiple sound cards (POD XT) are not recognized and thus the reason why I do not use it.

I currently use two Delta 1010Lt. plus my tascam FW-1884 I have found that (aside from the fact that I'm using multiple soundcards) that WDM drivers are much more stable on my system. I would suggest to use the ASIO until you get the chance to spend some time with your system and try them out. CJ is correct, you need to see what works best with your system and your needs.

Hi JV, Just to let you know, if you plan to run two M-Audio cards like I do, you will need to use ASIO as running two at the same time will not work with WMD. The two card will lose synch with WMD, but will stay in synch in ASIO. I'm running a Delta 1010 and a Delta 44 to enable us to have 12 live inputs when recording live. :-)

That's what I was trying to avoid CJay There's no avoiding it. Unless you dont want to know what works best for you. The only way for YOU to see what worksd best on YOUR pc is to try both. There are just way way way too many variables to figure into. so asking someone witht ehsame card is really cheating yourself. If thats what you want. It only takes a few minutes (alright 30 minutes maybe) to see what works best for YOU. Its a good thing to ask what interfaces work good with sonar, but when asking what driver mode works best is not in your best interest, as pc's have too many variables in them. Try both yourself to see what works best for you. No one here can tell you what works best for you. Only you can do that by testing. Cj Edit. JV, im just trtying to let you see that WDM or ASIO may work bettter for you. For some, its WDM and for others its ASIO. I'm sure youll see these exact results if you polled 50 people. It would probably come out 60/40 or 35/65. Its just that you will never be sure, if you do not try.
