Writing for brass ?

Hi
I just done a new song with 3 trombones, and 3 trumpet, and I was wondering if theres any given norm for voicing these instruments ? I know it all depends on the style and the context, but what I want to work out first is should I be writing in 6 part harmony (I've only just got copmfortable with 4 parts so I hope not !!) or should I be using doubles ??
Any pointers anyone ?

believe it or not, a lot of popular music horn sections play a lot of unisons and octaves. There is also a technique where you write in fourths, called Quartel Harmony that is used from time to time. At the other extreme are all sorts of complex chords, and a big part of writing those parts is what you leave out!

If you could provide a little more info on style or who you want to sound like perhaps others here can chime in.

In the meantime there is no substitute for transcribing, or when possible, score study. And there is always plain old experimentation<G>...

    Have fun!

    Hi !
The style I'm after is pretty much in the song I just posted on the song forum...I called it bold as brass ! If u get a minute that should give you the idea of what I'm after !
I'm familiar with using octaves and the unison, though to be honest I've used them more not for their sound but because it saved me the headache of working out fuller parts !!! I'm getting more adventerous now though,so I really want to get my head down and learn whatever techniques I can.
Quartal harmony.Yeah I've come across this, but I've never used it.I think I'll give it a go soon though ! Is it a modern compositional technique ? I know its got a really distinctive sound....defo something to be explored !
    Thanks for your post
