What Video Card Are You Using With 64-Bit Systems?
Is the Ge Force9600 GT a good card? I will be running Vista 64, Sonar 8 and dual monitors. Thanks, Brent

I use an ATI Radeon HD3600 512MB on a Vista64 dual monitor setup. That GeForce looks good.

Fantastic graphic, I can recommend you that one! VERY LOW heat too only 40c. 2x 24HD monitors! Use the newest NVIDIA graphic drivers. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Regards Freddie

I use a Ge Force 7200 GS. If this card can work with no problems, the 9600 GT should work even better.

The GeForce 9600 GT is (as you're probably aware) a gaming card. Even though it'll do what you want there are (in my knowledge) 2 downsides of using a gaming card in a DAW pc: 1) High memory allocation - it'll take some memory availability away from your system so if you need all of your pc's memory for music this may cause a problem. 2) Cooling - extra fan noise basically. FWIW: If you aren't planning on playing games on your DAW pc. then I would keep it as simple as possible. I use the nVidia NVS 440 in my 64bit DAW pc as I need support for 4 monitors, but it only has 256 RAM - sparing that little bit more for my samples! Either way, IMHO nVidia are spot on for 64bit platforms and handle multiple monitor setups seriously easily.
Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G, Q6600 2.4Ghz, Crucial 8gb, EMU 1616, nVidia NVS 440 + Matrox DualHead2Go, WinXP x64 + WinXP x86 Dual-boot, M-Audio ProKeys 88, Technics 5.1 amp., guitar that I never learned to play.

In Vista, the minimum should be a 256MB video adaptor with 512MB being the recomended choice (even if it's just for DAW use). Freddie mentioned there's a heatsink version of the GeForce card the OP inquired about that runs cool in his system, so I would definitely go with that in order to avoid fan noise. Vista runs smooth, but you need to have capable hardware.

I'm using an ATI HD8750, but the ATI X1950 worked just as well on the Aero desktop (with patched Vista 64 drivers). Strangely, I'm finding some GDI rendering tasks (in MFC style apps) in Win7 are quite sluggish. In SONAR, if I draw controllers in the controller pane, the update is really sluggish. Same happens in Cubase though (it's actually worse). Otherwise, Aero, 3D games, etc. run at high FPS with settings maxed out. I guess it must be apps that use the older GDI classes have some issue in Win 7. I'd like to know if anyone else has noticed something similar? There's no loss of resolution when drawing controllers, it's just that it takes a second or so (a WHOLE second, oh my!) for the controllers to appear. Like it's being held in a graphics buffer too long.

Yes it is. That's what I'm running and it's great. The fan noise is not a big factor if your PC is well ventilated. If you are just using the DAW, the GPU is not working very hard so heat is not a big issue, thefore the fan is not runnig really fast. I have an VERY quite PC case and other than at startup, when the video card fan is running at full speed (the drivers are not loaded yet), you can't hear it. If you plan on using multiple monitors and large ones at that (I run dual 22" wide screen), that card handles them effortlessly. ORIGINAL: A1MixMan Is the Ge Force9600 GT a good card? I have a GeForce 8500 GT with dual monitors. It is a fanless version (heatsink) and it work perfectly fine in Vista 64-bit (Business) for me. As was said, make sure you get the latest drivers. Tom

I agree to 100 %, you need a great card to perform well on VISTA and Windows 7. “Don't use a great graphic cardâ€, those days are gone..and I'm glad there are too. Today overall graphic are better and more GPU are in use too. Graphic getting better and better even on work applications and programs, not just games. And nice graphic is never bad; right! You should be pleased what you see every day in front of the work computer, as well. I will definitely recommended you go HEATSINK though if you like quite studio environment, even though the GPU fans getting quitter and better too. Regards Freddie

I have the new Gforce GTS 250 running 3 monitors Dell with Triplehead2Go and it runs perfect with the last drivers version. I had some drops with the other versions while VVocal was running moving clips in sonar 8
