MIDI Specification and info

I am new to SONAR and MIDI and the terminolgy which goes with it.
I am trying to find a MIDI specification document which details the controllers and their relevant descriptions of what they do. A Glossary or book recommendation would be helpful as would any links to relevant websites.

    unless you are familiar with specifications, the MIDI spec itself is a difficult "read"

    however, a condensed version of what the controllers are can be found here:
