Surround sound?

So can any of the new devices drive a 5.1 speaker setup?  I get the feeling the UA-101 might, but offhand I sure wouldn't know how to wire it up to my PC speakers...

    The UA-101 has eight line outputs on the rear, so it could be used for surround work, up to 7.1.

    For 5.1, you would need five identical speakers (individually amplified internally or externally), and probably a bass manager and monitor controller before the amp inputs.

    If your PC speakers have individual inputs and power, they could work. If they have a digital input or some other way of connection, that's a different matter.

    I've got a 5.1 setup (Philips), but it has its own cable management and only one connector going to the sound card.  That's why I'm not sure how I'd rig it up using a device like the UA-101.  But I'm interested enough in the product line to look into it.

    I know the M-audio transit has a digital 5.1 out that might work w/ your philips.  I don't know if the Cake/Roland units have that ability.  The VS100 is set up for analog surround and SONAR will do it.  I should be getting one soon and we could see.  I'll let you know.
