MIDI Latency issue - notes too early on playback

Setup:
software - Home Studio 7 XL
interface - TASCAM FireOne (set to 8ms)
OS - Windows XP Media center
RAM - 2GB
HD - +300GB
midi controller - Alesis QS6
(let me know if I'm missing anything)

Problem:
(I'm sorry if this is addressed elsewhere -- I promise I looked).  My issues is that when I'm trying to record a midi track (to go along with some pre-existing audio tracks), the midi notes end up being recorded too early.  That is, while recording they sound fine and on tempo, but during playback they play early;  On the piano roll, they are obviously before the beat markers.  My fix so far has been to select all the midi notes and slide them up 40-100 ticks.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

What is your alesis connected to via midi? Are you using USB or 5 pin for your connection. Also, what is your sync set to in options/audio/advanced meu. It should be Trigger freewheel. Make usre there is no quantizing enabled (i dont know if HS has that option)

The keyboard is connected via 5 pin cable.  I'm not seeing anything that looks like what you're talking about regarding the sync set to Trigger freewheel -- could this be listed elsewhere?

I'm not sure if auto-quantizing is available on HS, but I know it's not on as the notes aren't snapping to any particular beats or anything.

Thanks for all your help with this!

so its connected via 5 pin midi thru your Tascam, right? Does your pc have a Teas Instrument fire wire chipset. Tascam uses dice II FW chipsets and if you do not have a TI FW chipset in your pc, then i would get on ASAP.

Those settigns should be in the options/audio/advance menu. Maybe HS is not like sonar, but i tend to think it is.

    Hey, guys.
I've been battling this issue for years and can't get Cakewalk to believe me when I tell them that the MIDI is recording too early.
Has anyone found a solution to this one?
The closest I have come to a soution is leaning on the belief that the Metronome is SOUNDING off earlier than it should.
When I lay an AUDIO click down, instead of using the metronome, and follow that, my MIDI performances seem to line up and don't "record early."
I would love to go back to using a metronome, so if anyone has a solution, I would appreciate the sharing.

    Thanks./
