New Forum Slowing Things Down

Ever since the new look was released my IE gets really bogged down whenever I'm on the forum.  It doesn't matter if I'm trying to write a post, read a post, or even just scan for something I'd like to look at.  It's to the point where I only get on once every couple of weeks or so.  Anyone else having any problems like this?  I love the forums and they have been a great resource for me.

    Hi Twink,

I have no problem accessing or perusing the forums, but then again, I mainly use Firefox. I just went on with IE 8, and went thru some forums, also with no problem.

    cheers

Me too. I am on IE8 and it does get sluggish sometimes. Also get popups blocked with each message opened on forum, although my popup blocker is set to allow popups! I guess an auto IE update will fix issues in time.

The new forum format uses a lot more javascript. IE is a known dog at javascript - even IE8. Firefox, Chrome and Safari are light-years ahead in their scripting engines.

I finally left fire fox and am using IE8, I haven't had any major issues with it yet.

    count yourself amongst the lucky.

the script engine is about 400% slower than everybody else - no exaggeration. might not be a problem for you, but its a fact (and web apps is what I do for a living). In today's "Web 2.0" world its totally sub-standard. That being said, most people will never notice, partly because they don't visit sites where this is an issue, and partly because on sites where it does matter, people like me bust ass to get the code optimized to work on IE with some semblance of performance.

Unfortunately, a lot of sites work only with IE. Usually that means they're sloppily coded, and IE is "fixing" html mistakes silently that other browsers do not. Sadly, poeple have gotten hooked on this, hence the reason so many sites work only on IE. That is also why sites that work in FF always work in IE but not always the other way around.

Anyways, starting no browser wars here - just some info - you need them both unfortunately.

+1 for Chrome.  It runs fast - you'll have to customize the tool bar for common functions, but after that, it really moves!

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left...

I use Linux Ubuntu, much faster and everything works much better. Less likely to get viruses. Didn't have issues adding printer and scanner, very quick n easy, I got lucky because not all are supported.

I haven't tried Google Chrome as yet.
