interesting.. BUT is any of it based on other DSF products.. and if so which ones.. as maybe 1500 of the patches, others might have already.

    Hi,
Sorry not to clarify. This content is not part of any other DSF products. We actually went to the Emulator III source content and created these new SFZ and program files. The Mega Pack is a great bread and butter set designed to provide an ample supply of sounds for any project.

Has anyone here bought this?  $30 for 1,500 instruments sounds like a great deal, but I'm a bit skeptical about the quality for that price.  Can anyone vouch for how well these sounds hold up against, say, the presets in Dimension Pro?

I bought them , errm £18 or so.. some of the sounds are loops though and IMHO not usable

the layout of the patches is awful, I mean it should be split into better sections instead of genre's of music.

the sounds are ok considering the cost though, but try some of the other DSF packs to get an idea of it.

it's ok , but I haven't had enough time to go thru them and the way to browse patches in DP doesn't help either TBH.

Re:Digital Sound Factory Introduces 1500 New Sounds for Dimension - Only $29.95!!! 2009/08/28 12:02:58 (permalink)
Thanks.  I have been playing around with some of the other DSF packs (the free downloads from their site), and while some of the sounds are a bit dated, they're still useful in a mix.  I was just a bit concerned about these because DSF sells much smaller expansion packs for about twice the cost of this one, so I was afraid this might be on a par with those free synths that came with Sonar, like the Roland Groovesynth or Triangle or something.
For $30, though, if the sounds are decent, I could put up with some bad organization, I guess.

as you saw the sounds are new ones.. I did make a patch list for that also, but haven't released it.. I should do..

errm I kinda go thru the patch lists and then either highlight them if I want to use them again TBH..

it's a bit like crate digging for me, I mean certain sounds I've used people wonder where I get them from BUT joke is they have the sounds themselves.

    Hi All,

Re: Fog's comment, we were wondering if customers prefer the sounds organized by genre or instrument category. As you all know, Dimension displays in the typical tree folder format, so there is only one choice. If customer prefer, we can rearrange by instrument type.

A bit more background on 1500 Instruments for $29.95. We designed the product as a “get an incredible amount of very good sounds” for a great value. The set is ‘meat and spuds” to complement the existing Dimension content. We have a full satisfaction replacement or refund guarantee, so there is no risk!

    Tim--

    Thanks for the info.
I have to agree with Fog on this one:  Arranging by instrument type, rather than genre, would probably be better.  I didn't buy the 1500 Instrument Pack yet (I'll probably be getting it for my birthday soon, though), but I know from past experiences that I always like to easily be able to find an instrument by its type.  For example, sometimes I'll be laying down a part that's supposed to sound like a guitar, and it's very useful to have the option of opening a "Guitar" folder and just browsing until I find one that I like.  A lot of times, I may end up using one that might not even necessarily fit the genre of the song I'm writing, but for whatever reason, it just works well.
Besides that, Dimension Folders are already set up by "type", so for the sake of consistancy, it's probably best to keep it that way.
