Coupla Songs I'd like advice on.

Firstly, let me say that I have NO training in music engineering and have had to learn it ALL on my own.  When I first started mixing stuff a few years ago, I was using the equivalent of a square wheel, much of the time.  The program I used (not even sure the makers were proud enough to give it a name) was primitive and I had to actually cut and copy if I wanted to put a delay on something.  I've learned a lot in the past 5 or so years, but still, I'm likely missing some fundamentals due to the fact that I don't have anyone to bounce ideas off of.  Anyhow, here are the links to a couple of tracks I've recorded recently.  Any advice is welcome.  Critique the musicianship, the mix, the arrangement, the song structure.  It's all welcome.  I'm using Sonar 8 PE, guitar rig 3, and a Sound Blaster X-fi card (not really ideal for recording, I have to go in a 1/4" jack for most things).  I'd like to get a firestudio soon, but that's when funds will allow.  Anyhow, here are the songs.  Also on my page are some covers of a few Alice In Chains songs.  I think I mixed them far better, so if you just have time to kill and want to listen to any of them and give advice to an aspiring music engineer, please do.  Many thanks,

Adam

Oh, and watch in HQ, please.  It makes a drastic difference in the fidelity.

I'm susrprised you're not getting comments on this - this is a pretty good tune.

The vox a really good - I love them.

    The guitars sound really good.

The mix in general though is a bit weak - it all sounds a bit muddy to me - the low end is pretty washed out - no punch to it.

This reminds me of someone like Cactus.

    I enjoyed this.

I took a listen..... it sounded good to me on cheap comp spkrs.

For a critical listen I need to be on a different computer..... maybe later.

This does sound good. Especially like the crunchy rhythm guitar.  I don't know waht bitrate it is on youtube, but hosting it on soundclick may give better sound quality.

Nice work.  I thought the vocals were very 70s (which is very cool).  I'd like to hear a bit more highs out of the drum kit.  A three-part harmony in your chorus would really pull that section out as well.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Tom

Thanks for the input, thus far, guys.  Yeah, tyacko, I've been meaning to put some harmonies in the chorus.  In fact, I think I'll do that right now.  :]

Ok.  I added another vocal track to the chorus.  I'm sure I'll notice all sorts of things wrong with it later, but for now....there it is.
