Hey this sounds good .. What did you use to process the vox they get drowned some times and cut-off early... cool tune kinda like a mix of Tom petty with Bob dillan.

Great song, but the mix is a bit rough in some areas.

The kick is a bit extreme here and it is making my sub distort. It sounds a bit like clipping near the beginning.

The guitars are competing with each other, the drums and your vox for space. At this point I am not too sure how I would sort it out as I have not mixed that kind of song before.

    Hey All,

    thanks for taking a listen.

foxwolfen, not sure why your sub is distorting. I've checked it on quite a few systems and haven't had an issue.  I'll check it again when I get in tonight...

It is a bit of an 'in your face' mix.  I tend to agree with you about the space issues.  I'm actually working on a new mix for the LP that address some of that.  I want more separation across the board.  Time was of the essence so we had to make some decisions to get this version done.

Alkie, As for the vox processing...I'm using a combination of waves v-series and McDSP compressors (this was mixed in PT).  Massey TD-5 delays and UA Plate 140.  I'm not sure I follow what you mean by getting cut off?

as for the Dylan and Petty reference...thanks, I'll take that as a compliment.

I like the boomyness of the kick and bass. It hits really hard.. nice catchy chorus.  great guitar solo.

Sounds really good in the cans. Love the rhthym guitars playing off one another. The vocal gets lost a little here and there, but that seems to be the norm for this genre of music (or maybe I'm too old?). Sounds a bit over-compressed to me, but that is very subjective these days (loudness wars, etc..). Distorted guitars are not very distinct and lack attack (but I hear this sound a lot on the radio). Overall, I really like the style. It's good stuff. Take the crits with a grain of salt, as this is not really my genre. You guys got a great thing going. Keep it up!

This reminds me of Daughtry. I think it sounds great as a first attempt on the mix. I love the low end! My sub isn't distorting at all. Maybe Shad needs a new one. The guitars seem to bury the vox a lot, but that is an easy fix. Nice job, guys!

You guys sound great. I agree that the vocal occasionally seems to get lost but overall you've got a good song, strong lead and background vocals and solid musicianship...don't really need anything more than that IMO.

My ears are pretty tollerent of mixes and give me a rough sound over an over-polished sound any day.

That said, this did'nt sound particularly un-polished and i enjoyed the track.   Great playing and vocals. Good one.

    Hi studiofreak,

Real nice overall vibe. New band? You guys are individually and obviously no beginners. The performance is nice and tight. The musicianship is great. The mix sounds very good in the cans. Very very well done!

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for taking a listen.  I spent some time on it again yesterday, but I think overall this mix is my favorite...just needs a little tweaking here and there.

    Alegria,

we're not beginners by any means, but we are a new band.  We've made our rounds with various bands over the years, but we've only been playing and writing together since April.

I tend to mix the vocals way out in front but with this project we wanted it to sound more cohesive and not push the vox way out over the top.  maybe is the reason they get a little lost here and there. not sure...

anyway, thanks for your comments and crits.  I appreciate you all taking a listen.

This is a great tune.  If you get the vocals as clear as the guitars, that will be the finishing touch.  I love the tight sound of the rhythm guitar and melody line across that.

    great job.
