Help! First time user of GTP4 and can't hear my guitar??
Ello' fellow rawkers! I'm new to this forum and also bought my very first recording software with GTP4 with USB UA-1G! Here's my issue, I'm can hear the drums and hear the bass when I click on it, however, even though I downloaded the latest drivers for the USB US-1G, I can't hear anything when I'm plugged in and running the program. I changed my audio inputs to it, tried left channel, right channel and stereo options. I use my output as my sound card and my preview bus as my sound card. Just can't hear it. Can anyone help me out? I'd like to get started with the rock, so I can melt faces off with it. Thanks! -Nick

Welcome to the forum Nick! Go to Options - then Audio and check the spot that shows your PC sound card. You should also run the wave profiler shown at the bottom of that window. If that doesn't work come back to the forum and ask again. It also helps if you list your PC specs and sound card you' using. Good luck!

Bayoubill! Thanks for the welcome and quick response. I tried the Wave Profiler and set my Input to the UA-1G and the output to my sound card. That's how I was able to hear the drum kit and the bass stuff. Still nothing from the guitar/vocal part when I set the input/output. I'm getting no levels visually nor can I hear them. Explain your connection chain; ex. guitar into line in on the computer or guitar amp line out into input on the computer; are you using 1/8 in adapter etc. Can you post a screen shot of the audio options?

Filmmakernick ..... I'm getting no levels visually nor can I hear them. Not trying to be funny Nick but have you actually put anything in these tracks to hear.

Expect to see some unseemly gloating from our English buddy. At least I've finally got a reason to play the blues now.

Nick, Several questions to add to Bill's and then I think we can get you going without issue. - Would you be open to running both your input and output audio through the UA-1G?
- Did you click on the "R" record button (to arm the track for recording) for the particular track you are recording to? If so does it draw a wave from while you record? Is there a wave form present after you record?
- Are you getting any signal at all to the meters after the R button is clicked to arm the track for recording?

Hi Nick In addition to Bill and Docs' questions, I see the UA-1G has both WMD and ASIO drivers. What driver mode do you have selected in Options > Audio > Advanced ? Steve

Isn't ASIO the suggested driver for GTP4?

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at Bill. I also see a Soundblaster in the link so we could be dealing with mismatched sample rates?

Wow! Thanks for all the replies gentlemen! Doc- I'd be open to using input and output to my UA-1G, as long as I could hear it! Haha! Would I have to switch input/output to hear the drum or bass tracks though? When I press the Record button, nothing seems to happen. Steve- For my Driver settings I have Recording Device set to the UA-1G and the play back set to my SB! Live Sound Card. Bill- Here is a screenshot of my audio options. In my driver mode, I have ASIO, WDM/KS and MME 32 Bit as options. Thank you very, very much for all your help!

Hi Nick, Yes you would be able to hear your drums, etc trough the UA-1G. So here is what you will want to do. - Connect your speakers or headset to the UA-1G audio out. (it may also be necessary to disable your onboard sound card if the steps don't work the first time through. You do this by going to device manager. Finding the Sound, video and game controllers, open it up and right click on the sound blaster audio and disable it).
- Open GTP4 go to Options > Audio. Go to the advanced tab and make sure that the drivers for the device selected are the UA-1G. Also make sure that the option to share the driver with other programs is disabled.
- On the General tab. Select the UA-1G as both your recording and playback timing masters. Also make sure that the driver mode is ASIO.
- Click Apply and then Ok. The window will close.
- Go to Track view, Arm the appropriate track for recording. For input set the input to UA-1G Stereo. Select the output to go to the UA-1G. Plug in your guitar and press the "R" key and play something. See if you record any audio data. Press the space bar to stop the recording. Go back to the the start of the project. dis-arm the track. And press the space bar. You should hear playback through the UA-1G into your speakers.

Uh Bill? We haven't heard back from Nick yet. So hold on the owe us a song. And By the way my charges are only payable in Guinness. One pint, stout. No more. No less. Unless you answer to Steve and go by the moniker of SteveStrummerUK in which case the Limey owes this yank four (4) kegs and 12 pints of Guinness which he has owed me well nigh of three years or the like.... I should be charging interest. Just wait till he finds me knocking on his door. Remember Strummy I know where you live, mate.

Doc and Bill, None of those steps seemed to work, but I was a bit rushed at the time and have been tied up with work these past few days. I'll finally get some time off tomorrow and will sit down with it again and try and figure it out. I really appreciate all the help and as soon as I get a song recorded on it, up it will go for feedback and advice! Thanks guys! -Nick

I don't think we over here in the colonies should let that Aristocrat mentality go by unpunished! If need be I will start a "STRUMMY MUST PAY " fund. Let me know what you think.

Hey guys, So, I tried everything. I still don't hear my guitar and I'm not getting any levels in the UA-1G or the GTP4. I tried disabling my sound card and using the audio options in GTP4 to only run in and out through the USB of UA-1G. That didn't work. I even tried the most basic thing of turning up and down the volume on my guitar and the device, cause sometimes it is the most basic of things, right? Haha. That didn't work either. Nothing I do seems to work and here I thought all I had to do was install the program, update the drivers for the UA-1G, plug in my guitar and start recording. I know the program is more detailed than that, but to get started, I figured it'd be easier. My sound card, the Audigy Sound Blaster, is pretty recent and doesn't seem like it wouldn't be compatible. What could I possibly be doing wrong? Any clues or thoughts? I would really, really, love to start using this program, because it looks amazing. I just need to hear the guitar and see some levels, like I do with the virtual drums and bass. :) If anyone could help me get going, I'd appreciate it. I tried calling the help line last week and couldn't get through. You guys are my only hope here! Rock on. -Nick

Hi Nick, Sorry to hear that you are still having trouble. It is probably something simple. Just for clarity you have pushed the button labeled "R" for arming the track and you have set the input to the UA-1G Line in 1? And still no signal? Give me a couple of hours and I'll add some screen shots for you so you'll have some pictures to go along with the instructions.

Doc, Thank you sir! Yes, I did try that and still no signal. It won't even record anything when I hit the R button. Pictures and instructions would help tremendously. I appreciate you taking the time sir. Here's hoping it is relatively simple, and I'm sure it is. Thanks again! -Nick
