Imported Audio (Busy)
I am new to Sonar, and whenever i try to import audio, it renders the file whether it be mp3 or wav or whatever. then on the track, it says (busy) next to the name of the clip and it cannot be played. Any suggestions?

It sounds like its trying to create a picture of the audio in the track and for some reason it can't . See if your picture cache folder is properly being used. You can empty it by deleting the contents and check if you have an audio cache folder at all.

I deleted the contents of my Picture Cache folder and I can't seem to find an Audio Cache folder.

Usually, after importing a clip into Sonar the "busy" indication is displayed whilst Sonar writes the wave preview to the picture cache. Once written Sonar allows play & the preview file is used to display the picture in the audio track. How long is the "busy" display lasting? & how long is the file being imported?

Select Original in your import properties, under options/glabal/audio data. For some reason your pc/soanr is having a difficult time converting it. May i ask what sample and bit rate the project is and what samplwe and bit rate the audio your importing? Its good to list things like this, cause its info like this that will solve your issue. Cj

No answers above, so I will answer here: If you get the "busy" notice on the imported audio you have to right click it > then goto the tab that has beats and adjust it turn on looping if you have to. Basically Sonar is not able to determine what the musical time of the sample is so you have to help it out.

It would have to be an Acid file or REX file to have tempo and pitch info in it. What I would like to know is what constitutes an answer? No answers?

Any suggestions? I have this same problem when I import audio so I responded with what I do that works. None of the previous posts answered this question with what I knew was the correct answer for what the OP had. CJ, he did say import audio, right. We are all just making suggestions here.

True to a point but the OP has yet to get back with us and explain it a bit more. Also I am not sure that what you are saying is accurate about wave files. Then it could be that Sonar is unable to make a determination but that should be a different issue that I have never seen. If you have and you have found that right clicking is an answer by giving a tempo how can you be sure its the right tempo?

If you have and you have found that right clicking is an answer by giving a tempo how can you be sure its the right tempo? Well John, I get samples from all over and many of them are just sound EFX so when Sonar looks at the audio it cannot find a bpm to fit it in a set space for the clip length, that's when you get the "busy" and cannot play the audio. If the clip is a standard acid loop, it will have that data inside it and Sonar will read it and will display it correctly the first time. However most of the time I have to do the right click thing to tell Sonar a tempo, even if the audio doesn't really have a tempo, to get Sonar to set the length of the clip display. I don't know, but it seems Sonar is the only Daw that has this issue? Can someone confirm this?

OK what about a wave file that is not an Acid loop? How come Sonar reads it and imports it? It has no tempo in it. At least I don't think it does.

the busy bug was one well known to sonar 6 and home studio 6. are you using one of those? if so it causes no issues other than being annoying.

Aparently you never import samples!? The "busy" message was a quetion I had two years ago on this forum when I was a noob, never got a straight answer and figured out for myself.
