I wonder if Cakewalk will hook us up...

I wonder the odds of those of us that own Sonar 8 and Project5 will get a sweet 25-50% off the next update...

One can hope.

    Good question.

That would be nice, but I'm not counting on it.

I wonder how many P5 users will crossgrade, though.

From what I've read so far,  it's only $99 if you are upgrading from Sonar 8.

They did offer a cross grade offer to Sonar after announcing that P5 was no longer going to be developed.

Yea, Stuart, but that was before all this matrix stuff.  I'm sure a lot of P5ers would have been more interested in SONAR w/ a lot of p5 featurettes included.

I think a lot of people paid so little for P5 towards the end that it wouldn't be worth it to Cakewalk to offer such a discount. My uneducated guess is that P5 owners will be out of luck. However it seems like most of them (us - I'm a P5 owner) also own Sonar, so it's a moot point.

It would be nice if Cakewalk gave a bigger discount to those of us who own both Sonar and P5, but at $99 for all those new features, I ain't complaining.

I'm more interested in the S6PE to S8.5PE price...depending where it is pitched, will determine whether it's even worth downloading the demo.

S5PE to S8.5PE is what I'm looking at here. I moved on to another host, but these features, especially the matrix, have really piqued my interest.

    ...price will make a difference...

it will cost $99 for Sonar PE users to get the 8.5 update but how much will it cost for P5 users?  Oh yeh, you need Sonar 8 first to get the 8.5 update.  duh... so i wonder how much it will cost to just go from Project5 to Sonar 8.5?

as far as the discount for P5 users, i think they'll want you to send in 5 Proofs of Purchases.  6-8 weeks for delivery.

Don't forget - you have a number of choices in high-quality DAWs besides Sonar. I purchased Cubase 5 Studio and am very happy. I'm still a candidate for Sonar 8.5, but I will have to try the demo first.

It's like comparing apples and ginger-infused mangos, but once Max for Live comes out, the whole DAW paradigm may very well shift -- at least for that portion of the market that isn't focused on recording what goes on in the basement -- not that there's anything wrong with that.
