Export as Flac, and I get noise, crackling sounds

My project was done in 44.1khz 24bit.
I exported to 44.1/24bit and selected a sub format of 16bit PCM.

I also had another project that was done in 44.1khz 16bit.
I exported to 44.1/16bit, sub format 16bit PCM.

They both resulted in a lot of cracking noise.

I do not fully understand why this would happen, they were played in numerous players on numerous computers.
I spent the last few hours trying to get some background but was unable to come up with anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Need your computer specs and soundcard type to diagnose this. Sounds like your soundcard is not setup properly. Move the latency slider a bit to the right and see if that helps. If you export to WAV do you have the same problem?

    The 3 computers they were tested in-

    Q9400 2.66ghz Quad
    4gb ddr2
    Creative Audigy 2ZS
    XP Pro and Vista x64

    Q6600 2.4ghz Quad
    4gb ddr2
    Emu 1212M
    Vista x64

    E5200 2.5ghz Dual Core
    4gb ddr2
    Onboard Realtek
    Xp Pro

    ~~~~~~~
    I have a very strong background in computers.
    My soundcards are all setup properly in windows and they all play my cd's ripped to FLAC perfectly fine with no issues, this shouldn't be an issue when exporting anyways because your sound card is not being used to export.
    I do not have any issues while working or listening to the project played back in Sonar.
    When I export as a WAV file they sound fine, exported to 44.1khz / 16bit.
    When I export as a FLAC they get the cracking sounds, I have exported it on the two top machines posted, same results when played on all three systems.
    I have a good feeling this is either a setting when exporting as FLAC that I have wrong, or the FLAC encoder that Sonar uses is having issues, worst case I can export as WAV and then transcode that to FLAC.
    I do not know the answer, but as a guess I would say there is a problem with doing the bit reduction and export at the same time. Have you tried exporting as 44.1/16 wave, re-importing into a new 44.1/16 project in sonar and then exporting to FLAC at 44.1/16?
    Looks like you were right..
    I was wrong about my formats, I wasn't paying attention, they were both 44.1/16 the second one I must have mis clicked one of the boxes.
    When I set it to 44.1 / 16bit and set the PCM to 16bit they work flawlessly.
    Thanks, I would have overlooked that for a long time.
    Just for the record (since this shows up in google search), FLAC export in Sonar Home Studio 23.9 is still bugged.
    No matter wich bit quality you export to (8,16 or 24bits flac) the exported FLAC will have digital noise.
    The more the bits, the lesser the noise, but it's still there. I have manually compared the generated FLAC files against the same project exported to WAV using Sound Forge.
    Just don't export to anything other than WAV and then convert it to FLAC using the fre:ac audio converter or another solution from the creators fo the FLAC format at xiph.org
    The audiointerface has nothing to do with the result of the export.
    You can export without having an audiocard in the computer.
    I would never export to FLAC inside SONAR - instead always to WAV. There are so many tools for converting WAV to FLAC. We convert always with dbpoweramp to get the best results.
    We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
    4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...
    4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...
    i seem to remember noel saying something recently about flac export issues... yeah here  it is http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=3607265&p=5
    but even in 2009 i would export from sonar as WAV before converting to FLAC
