Can't install 8.5 on a fresh Windows XP install?

Just formatted and re-installed XP -  when I try to install 8.5 I get a "Cannot locte the require version of the prgram on this system.   Please install the Correct version to use this patch."

Does this mean you have to install v8 first to install v8.5?   if so that blows.

A 2 GB download can't possibly include all the files/code/data that came with Sonar 8.0. You need the core code to make the upgrade work.

Yes it can -  the SONAR 8 install files are only slightly larger.

Yes - If you downloaded the update, then version 8 must be present. It's an update.

But if you order the disks, you should be able to install fresh from those.

+1 to rstollen's comment.  Bakers have said that the disks include the full files while the downloads do not.

You don't need to give them another $15.  Just get out your V8.0 disks.  You do have them,  don't you?

PCs just run better with a fresh install of Windows and no legacy versions of applications installed under new versions.   This should be obvious.

    You misunderstand.

The 8.5 update does not contain the full SONAR install.

SONAR 8 (preferably 8.3.1) must be installed on your system
for the update to work correctly.

The only other option is to buy the full 8.5 DVD set.
The full version of SONAR 8.5 is not available as a download.

If you think about it, it makes sense.
How could a 2 GB download contain the 17 GB plus of data
contained in the 4 SONAR 8 DVDs you need for a full install?

The previous version 8 is  not "legacy" software,
8.5 is still version 8 of SONAR ... plus some ......

    HUH?

Surely the word "update"  gives you a clue?

    It's an update!

That implies that something must already be installed
    to be updated yeah?

That's what the installer is telling you.
It can't find the original install to perform the update on.

It installs a seperate version -  It's NOT an update.   Stay out of my thread as you have nothing useful to contribute.

It uses the V8.0 install as the SOURCE MATERIAL for V8.5

The V8.5 download contains ALL the patches + extra content since 8.0 including everything for 8.5

You Must install your V8.0 disk set IN FULL.  Then run your V8.5 download. You end up with V8.0 and V8.5

Being wrong is excusable.  Being wrong and being rude to people trying to give you the correct information is inexcusable.   Fret Wizz is correct and you are wrong.  Now apologize for being and ignorant jerk.

Or... your other option is to continue trying to install the update as if it were a full version.  That should be fun.

Yes it does but it needs the original install to build the complete 8.5 install.

And it's not your thread man!

Anyone can post to any thread here.
    It's an open forum.

I'll accept your apology when you realize your mistake.

His last reply made me laugh out loud.

Maybe he's hit on the secret formula to turn
a 2 GB update into a 17 GB full install?

His next post will be "interesting".

    His thread eh?

    Now I've seen it all!

You guys trying to help the OP have my respect for being very patient.

The OP is dead wrong on this and will never get anything installed if he doesn't listen to you guys.

I would explain it too except you all have already done the explaining.  How many ways does a newbie need to hear something before it sinks in?

    hehe

    Next morning.

    HI EVERYONE!

Looks like DH123 ran away when he realized his mistake.

    hehehe

I told my wife about this one ... usually hard to raise
her interest but this one got a laugh out of her so at
least something positive came out of it.

    Actually, I think DH123 may've performed a small
service for all of us because, as far as I can tell
his is the most extreme example, so far, of
someone who is so set in their ways, so not able
to give up old notions of how software is delivered,
updates etc etc, that they can't accept the truth
when it's staring them in the face!

From my point of view there have been many
posts here suffering from this syndrome, albeit
in a much milder, less obnoxious way.

And even though none have been so rude, obnoxious
or set in their ways ... many could learn from him.

Let go of previous conceptions of how software is delivered
and what a "points release" is as opposed to a "full release".

    Or whatever the terminology is.

    Let go people!

Open your mind/eyes/heart to the new way.

Or at least the current way.

Cakewalk have dared to shift the goal posts
and I'm absolutely amazed at the conservative,
hysterical reactions, some people have displayed,
in their inability to comprehend and handle the shift!

Human nature is a weird thing.

    Vary basic equation here.

    2GB < 17 GB.
