8.5.1 MP3 Encoder

I purchased Cakewalks MP3 encoder. It works in 8.3.  It does not work for me in 8.5 or 8.5.1.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm getting the "MP3 encoder must be unlocked before use. Please visit ............to purchase a new encoder".

Do you get an option to unlock? If so, does it ask you to insert your prior SONAR disc?

One work around is to use LAME.  It is free and it works in 8.5.  Here is the link from the SOS article that Craig Anderton wrote on how to setup Lame for operation in Sonar.

My MP3 encoder works fine in 8.5 (the same one I've been using since V3).  I'm talking about Cake's MP3 encoder "add-on" which is based on the LAME encoder (3.97 or sumthin like that).

I was wondering something though, wasn't there a LAME update not too long ago? If there was I don't think that has been added to the Cake MP3 encoder yet.

I just don't get why it is working in 8.3 but not 8.5.

I installed the MP3 activation program, not the encoder. I have to somehow find a way to download the encoder again i suppose.

The Cakewalk encoder is part of Sonar. You might try running the activation program again, it's MP3Activation.exe.

Do you get the final install message saying like "MP3 encoder has been successfully installed"?

I went from 32 to 64bit and had to call Cakewalk to get the 64bit encoder. You didn't happen to go to 64bit?

    I've always been 64bit.  My 8.3.1 mp3 encoder works 64bit.

Yes, I opted to call instead of email. The call took approx 3 minutes.

    Hi krizrox:

A kind hearted SONAR user, jcatena, re-complied the TTSlame.dll a few months ago using the most recent Lame enocder version (3.98.2), so we can have the most recent version of Lame to use with the Cakewalk MP3 Encoder. He did this for SONAR 8 32bit and 64bit versions. Then, he posted the download link and instructions in a post in the SONAR Resources sticky thread.

    Here's the link. See post# 44: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?&m=1356703&mpage=2

    BINGO!!!!!

I called Cakewalk and sure enough.  I now have the 64 bit version of the mp3 encoder working. I didn't even have to talk to tech support. I just contacted customer service and they took care of me right away.

All I can say is Thanks ModemHead and WHAT A FORUM!!!!!!

Cakewalk support is by far the best that I've seen.

I do wonder why the MP3 64bit version was not included in the downloaded version of 8.5.  Hmmmm.

    Anyway. Thanks again ModemHead!!!
