Problems opening projects in 8.3 and 8.5.1
Has anyone else encountered this? After selecting a project to open...nothing happens. I wait a long time, and then have to kill the app. If I retry, it loads fine (sometimes I need to do this a couple of times before the project loads). This happens regardless of which project I'm working on (and the plugs they use), and regardless of whether I'm running 64 or 32 bit. Since I have to stop Sonar as opposed to it crashing and throwing an error message, I never see what the underlying problem is. When I look into the task manager as the load is going on, I see two Bitbridge processes, though only one is consuming any CPU - about 25 percent. If someone else has seen this, I'd appreciate any insight. I'm running a Vista64 system with a Delta1010 card. It has gotten much worse with the 8.5.1 release my system: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard G.SKILL 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5Q-8GBPQ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Data EXCELSTOR Jupiter Series ESJ8080S 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - System

Rich, Is it doing a VST scan? It may be confused as to whats 32 and 64bit plugins. Cj

It's not showing the dialog for a vst scan. There's no dialog or other indicator of what's going on. I don't want to rule anything out, but I assume if it were a problem figuring out 32 v 64 bit plugs it would happen every time. Right now, it will eventually work if I keep shutting Sonar down and trying to load the project again.

It could also be a midi in and out thingy wingy. Do you have any midi devices connected and on when starting sonar Cj

Sure, I typically have a BCF2000, Tranzport, and ReMOTE SL connected. Should they not be on? I'll take a look at how having them off effects things.

All hardware should be on and ready before starting Sonar always. For example if you use a USB audio device and its off before you start Sonar but you turn on the device then start Sonar without a pause between the two. The USB device may not have time enough to fully load and configure itself. To Sonar it will try to see it but it can't. Though this should not impact the ability to load any project. A MIDI device might lock up Sonar if its not ready to be accessed. Also if you have an M-Audio MIDI interface that may be the problem if it is not fully ready to be used upon start up. Try loading the projects in safe mode. You hold the shift key when you load it.

No, they don't have to be on, i have my axium hooked p and not always on. I turn it on, if im going to be using it that day or session. But im just thinking out loud. Sometimes midi devices can cause a failed start-up. so im giving you some idea's. Now my Faderport is always on, since i use it in every project. so maybe your BCF needs to be on all the time also The answer is yes and no Cj

I've noticed this recently, too. I'm thinking that the behavior changed when I changed ThreadSchedulingModel from 1 to 2 (for a quad core processor). Seeing you have a quad core too on Vista...it may be related. I'll test more tonight, but it is a drag having to shut it down via task manager, which also takes a while too, for some reason. I'm on Vista 32.

I've had this issue too. Not very often, but enough that I was able to recognize the symptoms you mention. And yes, trying to close Sonar from within the Task Manager can take a long time (the same "long time" as if Sonar had crashed and yet there's still a process running in the task manager). I haven't come up with anything deterministic yet. Maybe a pattern will emerge from this thread...
