The best midi (drum) files collection?

Does anyone know of any comprehensive collections of midi files for free or for sale?  I hear now and then from people claiming to have 1000s of midi files...  I'm looking for snippets to use in beat and loop construction rather than full songs...

Thanks!

    What style of music....?

This matters.... If you are writing pop, rock, country, or most modern types of popular music, many of the drum synths available on the market will do a fine job. Jamstix, Session Drummer, etc..... will all work fine, and sound good.

If you are writing music that does not fit that formula, such as some forms of ethnic and world music, these synths might work or maybe not..... depending on a number of factors.

I am not aware of a free library of drum loops but the synths are affordable and do a fine job..... most have downloadable demo versions so you can try them out.

I use Jamstix, and it is editable on a note by note basis if I don't like the track it creates for me. I recommend it highly.....  www.rayzoon.com

I do ethnic, world, electronica and rock.  Really I'm looking for a (large) set of drum riffs and rhythms (bossa nova, waltz, jazz beats and more complicated stuff) which I can use creatively and for quick construction when I don't have time to map things out.

Yeah sessions drummer is great.  I just thought maybe there was some massive collection you could buy online...

Well then....why didn't you say so in the first place ....?

IMHO  you should look at Band in a Box/real tracks (2009). www.pgmusic.com it does all of the above....and more. It's not cheap (depending on the version /level you get, about $400usd) but it has literally hundreds if not thousands of styles and sub styles, and tons of them are bossa, cuban, columbian, raggae, african, and lots of other ethnic styles. And JAZZ...there are so many styles here that you can set up all night playing with them and never repeat the same style and just scratch the surface. Old, New, Pop, dixieland, fast, slow, waltz, and more in the jazz catagory.

They have a free download to test it.  Take a listen to my tunes.... I have used BB to assist with the last 5 or so songs.... check out Sao Paulo Night....most tracks were created in BB, with me on guitar. I export the tracks to Cake and mix in cake using what I like from the tracks.

You owe it to yourself to check it out. Remember this.... the demo is a limited version and tends to sound very midi. The full version sounds very good IMHO, since it does have the Real Tracks and Real Drums included (with the right levels) ...plus.... it has a 30day MBG.

The MIDI that comes with ezDrummer and SD2 is pretty darn good - I use these and tweak them to my track. They are however very rock/funk oriented.

I don't know if Toontrack offer them for sale stand alone or if you have to buy the software too though, I seem to remember seeing a MIDI pack on their website?

thanks guys.  for some reason I didnt get notification about all these recent posts.

Band in a Box has interested me for some time.  Unfortunately I just spent a fair bit on Groove Monkey and Twiddley Bitz and EZPlayerPro...

    Thanks for all the input...

It always pays to check back here rather than rely on email notification.... if you are in the right forum....or maybe the wrong forum...... you could easily be flooded with emails..... what a pain.
