How do I record Microkorg synth sounds in P5 2.5
Hi all I have the original Microkorg (not XL version) and want to record the audio into P5, but although P5 clearly recognises a sound signal it is not recording anything into an audio track. I have the L/R mono outputs of the Microkorg connected to the inputs on my audio interface (M Audio Fast Track Ultra USB) and I have checked that the signal is live in the Fast Track Ultra mixer on the correct channels. I set up an audio track in P5 and I have the audio input set to the stereo input from the Fast Track Ultra. The track and master volume meters in P5 respond to input from the Microkorg and I can hear the sounds in my headphones. Having armed the track I then record, but nothing is actually being recorded into the track. Any ideas what I am doing wrong ? Or is it just not possible to record a hardware synth into an audio track on P5 ? Cheers Mark

I record guitar in the exact same way you describe so it should'nt matter what it is s long as it's an audio signal. It seems from your description that you're doing everything correctly so it's a mystery why it is'nt recording. This will sound like a really daft question, but you are hitting the record button and not the play button are'nt you? Is a strip appearing after you record? I've been caught out with that a few times myself.

Oops, how embarassing, bit of a brain lapse there after working out how to get everything connected. I was hitting Space instead of the R key to start recording - time to take a break I think! Thanks for the reminder blipp

Now that i'm recording the audio OK one other problem has cropped up - how the heck do I save an individual audio track ? I've recorded a couple of arpeggiated tracks with the Microkorg, but when I go to the editor pane the option to save a track is greyed out. Going to File/Save As just gives me the option to save the whole project, not individual tracks.

If i'm understanding correctly what you are trying to do, you could just select solo for that track and export it as a wave file.

It looks as though the audio editing capabilities of P5 are a bit limited. I will have to set up Audacity so that I can export the audio track and edit it there then save as a wav. I had assumed I could just record an audio track and it would effectively become a new pattern that I could save and edit for use in a larger project. Curiously, if I set up a blank pattern and then record the audio into that I can save the audio as a pattern but editing is still limited. Having been away from P5 for a couple of years everything is a bit

Couple of things concerning your 2nd question: Once you save the project, you can simply locate all your .wav files in the Cakewalk Project's folder of the same name. I do this all the time, if I bounce a channel to a .wav (not freeze, BOUNCE) then it stores the resultant .wav file in the project folder. Concerning your comment about limited audio editing capabilities in P5, it was decided that it would be better to let us use our own audio editor within P5 then to try to develop a suite of editing tools proprietary to P5. So, are you not aware that you can record a .wav, and simply double-click the 'wave' to view it in the EDITOR PANE? From there, you can see a drop down which allows you to choose from a few different audio editors (that you have installed already like Audacity). Essentially, what I'm saying is that P5 shares the .wav info and audio drivers (if so designated in Sound Options) with your favourite wav editor program without having to close your P5 session... so you can edit the wave file and then bring the newly modified wav back into your project again all without closing P5. That's about the best way I can imagine to work with audio!

Thanks for the extra advice DA. Now that I have Audacity installed its all making more sense and the workflow is pretty smooth. I'm quite liking audio in P5 now
