Volume Automation

Regarding this, I recently looked at a demo video for Waves Volume Rider (I think it was called something like this) which is a VST that automatically levels the vocals by writing automation back to the track.
Too cool! But too expensive!
Anyone seen anything similar to this but cheaper?

Wow, a tool like that would save me a lot of trouble. But I've learned my lesson with expensive Waves plugins. They don't work on a 64bit OS (even with Sonar's BitBridge). If someone else makes that plugin cheaper & 64-friendly, I'm on it. What a great, non-destructive alternative to compression this would be.

Edit: I found Wave Rider for $85 but it's written for ProTools, curses. I wonder if the RTAS will work in Sonar (64 bit)?

I noticed Wave Rider too, but I wasn't aware that Sonar supported RTAS?

It looks a bit 'home made' also!

Please tell me it works perfectly in Sonar.  (I spend more time on volume envelopes than any other tweak)

You might have a look at this one: VocSteady. Not the same thing, it's a compressor optimized for vocals. Personally, I prefer hand-made volume envelopes to get them in the ballpark, augmented by slow attack and release compression. I've used products that create automation envelopes and they're messy.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Blue cat audio has a meter plug that can be used to do this sort of thing . You can even do the RMS values ; Just remember to set it to invert the output  so it is turning down the peaks . They have plenty of tuitorials at the site.

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.
