Handling Chord Changes in Matrix View

So let's say you're happy with some grooves using matrix view - say maybe 5 smart loops going with both midi and audio loops around a particular chord - say C, in one 'column'.

Now, what's the way to handle chord changes?

Rich helped me a bit during the Clinic (Thanks Rich) however it didn't quite click...

For example: One column as C and I'd like another column in Ab, and another in Bb.  That way I can noodle around with lengths and changes with one keystroke, while working out a guitar/bass part, or etc,

Do I need to change each wave and midi loop in each column to correspond to Ab and Bb, or is there a simpler way?

Thanks!

Make copies of each clip in the Track View, transpose accordingly, and then drag those clips into the MV.

    Interesting Seth - thank you!

I woudn't think you could do this, as it would overwrite the loops during the recording... But I guess Matrix view saves them in their own area.  Really cool - I'll give it a try!

Do you think this would be a legit feature request to say maybe add a pitch shift or something similar to the cells in the matrix view?  Or something to reference which loops would be impacted by a chord change, and be able to change a whole column pitch in a click?  If so, I'll add a ticket.  If your way is common, then I digress.

    Thanks!

Definitely add a feature request if you think it would be a good idea. I can see how your suggestion would be a very quick way of doing what we're talking about, but for now the method I mentioned should do the trick.

I noodled aroud with this a bit.

By Tranpose, using a midi clip, you mean by going into clip properties, under Audio Stretching, and change the reference note of each clip, right?

Well I tried this.  I started with C, and wanted to go up to F and/or G (using 3 columns), and interestingly it went down in pitch.  I tried changing the semitones to +12, which worked in the clip, but didn't work in matrix view.  So in that case...

Any particular reason why sonar couln't transpose a midi clip 'UP'?

Can someone confirm that semitone's change won't drag into the matrix view?

Another thing I messed with. is applying the midi 'transpose' effect to each clip in one track.  Is this the way that was meant to be done?  However, I didn't have much success with this either.  [edit] Applying the effect didn't work either, when dragging into groove matrix...

    Thanks!
