Windows 7, 64 bit, Waves = MADNESS

I've installed the RC of Windows 7 64bit (works pretty well) and got it to work with my Edirol FA-66 using their 64bit Vista drivers.

Sonar actually works pretty well, at least until I tried opening a project that was saved on Vista 32bit using Waves plugins, the project works but the waves plugins are a no show.

When I force sonar to look for them it added them to the list, but they don't work and after every listing in the AUDIO EFFECTS menu there is a 0 (zero)

I don't want to go back to 32bit, will it help if I just install the 32bit version of SONAR ?

Can I install both 32 and 64 bit versions on the same OS at once?

What do you guys think?

Yes you can install both the 32 and 64 bit versions of SONAR together. Obviously you can only run one version at a time. Waves aren't updated for 64 bit yet so when you need to use them open any projects up in SONAR 32 bit version.

Here's how you can get Waves plugins to work with Sonar 64 Bit on XP64, Vista64, or Windows 7 64 Bit.

    1 - Download Shell2vst.exe here... http://www.xlutop.com/buzz/zip/shell2vst.zip
    2 - Copy Shell2vst.exe to C:\Program Files (86)\Waves\Waveshells
3 - Drag and drop each "WaveShell-VST x.x.x.dll" onto the shell2vst.exe (But not WaveShell-Direct X...dll or the WaveShell-Direct X...dll) If prompted to overwrite, choose "no"
4 - A new "Waves" folder will be created that contains all the waves plugins as individual .dll fils
5 - Copy the newly created "Waves" folder into your shared Vstplugins folder (Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins)
6 - Remove the WaveShells from your shared Vstplugins folder

The above does work... *if*... the plugins are sucessfully installed.

    Here's the deal, Waves plugins won't install/authorize under x64.
At least not prior to the version 7 release...

If you have an older Waves bundle (ie: version 5):
The legitimate installer will fail.  If you try to use WinXP compatibility mode to complete the install, the plugins won't authorize/work.
The only "workaround" to this problem (that I'm aware of) means using a cracked version of the plugins.  Not ideal...

I've never used version 5, but I have used Waves Diamond v 6 and I just upgraded to v 7.  Both installed flawlessly and authorization was no problem.  I currently have a tri-boot setup which includes the following:

    - Windows 7 Ultimate x 64
    - Windows Vista Home Premium x 64
    - Windows XP Professional x 64

My machine is a Core I7 920 12GB DDR3 RAM and waves 6 worked fine on all of the above.  I recently upgraded to v 7 and it works under all of the above, so I'm not sure why anyone would be having problems installing either of those versions.  The only thing that I could not get to work was the shell2vst.  I tried it after I had upgraded to v 7.  It will create the individual .dlls for the plugins, but they will not work under Sonar 8 x64 on my machine.  I followed the instructions to the letter and the plugins are a no-show.  Well, at least, I can use them in the 32 bit version of Sonar 8 which I also have installed, so it's not a problem.
For anyone having problems getting Waves v6 to work under the above: Have you downloaded the latest x64 drivers for your iLOK?

I have Waves Gold and Waves GTR V6 both working under Windows 7 64 bit using Shell2VST and then jbridge. This is using Sonar 8.3.1 and the "R" DAW. I did have one problem exporting from within Sonar. Crashed on Waves GTR. I have not had a chance to revisit the problem yet.
