"Project Loading in Process" progress bar/indicator...

Would anyone else besides me like to have one in Sonar?  In my recent trials and tribulations due to a hard drive that went south I had several gut wrenching occasions where Sonar would be seemingly (or actually) unable to load a project.  But I would have no indication of any progress except for the "hourglass" thingy just hanging in the middle of the screen.  It would seem to me that a "progress bar" of some sort, perhaps even showing what plug or synth was currently being loaded in would be very helpful...especially if there was a problem.  There are actually some synths (Kontakt comes to mind) that do pop up and announce there load status, why not everything?  You could see at what point you got hung up.  I'm no coder but how hard would it be to have such an animal?  Anyone?

I have to change my reply to this.

today while loading a song, I happened to look at the bottom of my screen.......
and running across the  bottom.......a "Progress Bar" loading the song.

I have no idea why you're not showing one also. I thought that I'd make you aware of this.

    Happy Holidays,
    Michael

    edit:

"Sounds like a good idea to me"

I can't see any harm in having it!

Oh, I think I see what you mean.  Yes, there is a blue bar that streaks across the bottom of the screen when the project is finally loaded that goes from nothing to 100% in the blink of an eye.  That's not what I'm talking about.  I'm talking about a progress indicator that runs from the moment you call up a project.  On some of my larger projects some plugs (like certain instruments that run under the Kontakt engine) will pop up and show their loading status.  But by an large it's just the hour glass that hangs in mid screen until the "streaking" blue bar swipes across the bottom.  What I'd like is a true load progress indicator.

PS:  I've also discovered a strange anomaly since all my hard drive troubles and replacements.  I can open my old projects that were "recovered" off the drive that went bad and then copied over to my new drive only if I go directly to their folder and open them from there.  If I try to load them from Sonar's "recent projects" list in the File/Open drop down menu...they won't open at all...Sonar hangs.  This even after I've opened them and resaved them.  Weirdsville.

At the bottom of the window. In the same spot that shows exporting progress in a track export.

I think you are too enamoured of "LOL" Michael, ol pal.  Plus you apparently didn't read my last post.  Plus you (and this was temporarily difficult for me as well) haven't learned to master the "quote" system in this infernal new forum software.

You may have to load all your old files that way.  Even though the Drive letter may be the same the file names sonar uses may have included other information about  the drive such as drive type etc that may now be different.  That is assuming you have renamed your drive to it's old drive letter.  Likely once you bring them in and save them they will be fine.  It may be a similar problem with loading the files looking for locations of the vst etc that may have changed locations.

Oh yeah that.  But that bar is useless!  It doesn't correspond to real-time, and like yorolpal said, it just goes from 0-100 after everything had already loaded!

I noticed a longer opening time for projects now.  I don't know if that's because I'm using synths with larger patches now or what.

I think it's weird that EZ Drummer and some other synths (Broomstick Bass comes to mind) won't load the patch or kit if the synth is closed, you have to open the UI from the Synth Rack at least one time to "initialize" it.

Yea, I've been having a weird problem since I upgraded to 8.5 with EZD...(but not SD2)...all my kits take FOREVER to load again, like they did when EZD was first released.  For the longest time they've loaded at a decent, almost acceptable clip...but no more.  Now it's 3, 4 sometimes 5 minutes to load, say, Nashville.  PITA.

Men! That would be Great!!!! I totally support a Progress bar during song loading ! some times sonar looks like doing nothing and i'm tempted to press the CTrl-Alt_delete and stop the program because seems unresponsive But its not!!!! that progress bar and  background plugging information will be a Huge Visual Feedback Sonar its doing Good...and which pluggings are unresponsive!

You must be running a fairly old version of Sonar.

if your ever having a problem opening a project (plug in related) use safe mode.
Hold down Shift and start Sonar.

Agree with BJ, this thread is 7 years old.
(my opinion:) nothing solid ever comes from digging up old threads.
the info is typically dated and useless.

    Dated and useless??? Whatever.
I would like a progress bar...instead of a spinning wheel and a not responding warning whilst loading large projects. Using current Sonar at todays date.

Im pretty sure its soundtoys 5 plugins (that i need to run in jbridge for them to even load reliably) slowing down my project load times...would be great to know if it was still loading or crashed

    Dated - yes, beyond question
Useless - yes, unless you're still running 8.5 or thereabouts.

But the bottom line is, as I stated earlier, Sonar DOES have a progress bar in the Control Bar and has been present since the X series was launched

im using the latest version of Sonar and I DO see the progress bar in when loading a project.
granted its fast (what can I say I have an I7 )
its in the same place the export project bar is.
typically heavy projects here open in 10 seconds or less.

If you looking for a project progress indictor chances are a progress bar is the least of your trouble. it could be a failing hard drive, bad RAM, even a plug in causing the slow start up.
    hope this helps.

While Sonar has already loaded the project, any VSTs may still be loading in the background. Sonar doesn't know the progress of that process. You are unlikely to get what you are after from here. The way EastWest Play handles it is a small progress indicator floats on top of the project while the samples are loading. Kontakt does this too, but only for the initial sample check. The actual loading progress can only be seen in Kontakt itself.

When my projects get big, I basically open the project and do something else until the hard drive light(s) stop blinking, lol.

There's something to be said for a pragmatic approach

I have noticed that if you open SONAR immediately after the Windows desktop shows, it takes a long time for a project to load. I thought it was a SONAR thing but Studio One exhibits the same behavior. I suspect it's because Windows is still doing things in the background that take priority over what any one application is doing.
