Panning problem with audio tracks - please help!! TASCAM Fireone with Sonar 8.5

Hello,

Lovin' my 8.5 upgrade!

I have looked at all the 'suggestesd' posts on this topic and I still can't quite get it right...

Using TASCAM FireOne, inputting to left side thru mic... track properties says 'Tascam FireOne - Left. Track meters indicate a stereo signal on the track (split meter) and, panning from far left to far right moves the sound from far left to center. In other words, the signal is limited from far left to center only and cannot get the image to move to the right...

Copied the track contents to another track, recorded earlier (bass) using the right input and panning correctly, and the signal now pans correctly. The meter has the split bar ( like stereo) but now pans correctly. I can see no difference in the setup of the tracks other than using a different FireOne input when recording the two different instruments.

Clicking the 'mono-stereo' button on the 'problem' track strip has no effect.

So.. when I record using the mic (Fireone Left side) I can only pan 50% of the field; when using the instrument input (right side of the Fireone) I can pan the whole way across...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

LJ

    A mic is mono
You need to select a mono input, not a stereo input. Selecting a mono input for the track input will make the track mono and visa versa.
Select the correct input in sonar's track and youll have no problems

Even though you're only using one channel of your interface, make sure you're actually recording it as mono.

Looking at the clip's waveform should quickly tell you if it's a mono or stereo track. A single channel recorded as stereo will show two waveforms. Assuming you recorded only the left channel, the picture will show the actual recording on top, plus a straight line below it representing the dead channel you recorded on the right.

If that happens, simply right-click on the clip and select "convert to mono".

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
