I NEED HELP WITH SONAR LE/ G-TRACK ETC
Well I just want to know if I can adjust the volume on just one section of the track. Like lets say you were recording on a track called audio track 1. then you stopped and you recorded on the same track, but you were too loud. can you turn that one part down without having the turn the track line up. AND can you have the beat and your vocals going at the same time with headphones plugged in. And then once you're done recording have it play out of the speakers hooked in your computer with out any lags. AND my SONAR LE won't let me import WMA audio in it. Even though i set it to. It says I don't the permission or license, I don't remember. But i do have a license for it. Soooo yeah. If you can help me. That'd be pretty cool
thanks

Aside from the WMA import issue, you can have SONAR do all those things. (As far as the WMA issue goes, you'll have to let us know which error you're getting.) You can adjust the volume of a clip on an audio track by creating a volume envelope for the track. Just right-click on the track and choose Envelopes/Create Track Envelope and choose Volume. You'll have to set points to where your volume changes, but it's very easy to do. There are other ways to automate volume changes too; check your SONAR Help file. Of course, you can also use compression to "smooth out" the peaks and valleys in the recording. You can monitor your vocals while listening to the music, but there might be some lag. I've found the best way to do it is to use a mixer, and "split" the audio before it gets into the computer, but in SONAR you can enable the "Input Echo" on the track. Depending upon your sound card and computer, you might hear a noticeable lag, so you'll have to adjust your latency settings (under Options/Audio). There's always going to be lag if you're working with a digital audio workstation. The key is to minimize it. There are a lot of helpful posts here about how to deal with it, but if you experiment in SONAR by setting your latency as low as possible (before you start getting pops and dropouts) while recording, you can increase it during mixdown and you won't notice them as much. For the least amount of latency/lag, I've found ASIO drivers to work best, but your mileage may vary. I have found that "ASIO for All" isn't the same, and does cause lag when you start playback. If you're using that, you might want to switch back to ASIO or try one of the other drivers. Steve

Does this happen with all the WMA files you have or just one? Can you play this file in Windows Media Player? Is the file "protected" or copyrighted (that is, did you get it from a CD or on-line) or is it your own, original audio? See if anything here ( http://www.microsoft.com/...er/faq/drm.mspx#q11_1) looks familiar to the error you're getting. Steve

Okay, so what happens when you try to play one of these WMA files in Windows Media Player or when you try to import a different WMA file into SONAR? Steve

It works perfectly on Windows Media Player. When I put it in SONAR, it just tells me no.

We still need to know what kind of license it says you need. It could just be a corrupt file in SONAR, where SONAR thinks the file is bad, but it's really just a part of SONAR's converter that isn't working properly. If you'll let us know if any other .WMA files open in SONAR, and if any .MP3 or other non-WAV files open, that would be very helpful, too. And if you want to send me the file, I can try it in my version of SONAR. I do this stuff all the time in troubleshooting graphics files. We have to rule out what works and what doesn't before we can find out what the problem is. Of course, another option you have is to convert the .WMA file into a standard .WAV file and see if SONAR will import that. There are many free products that will do this for you if your version of Windows Media Player doesn't. I wouldn't convert it to a .MP3 or other "lossy" file format; if SONAR won't import a standard .WAV file, you have a problem. Steve
