Headphone crackle from external synth

Sonar 8.5.2 producer
Porland fantom g8
emu0404 usb

Use Fantom to  record midi track on Sonar
add a session drummer 3 track to sonar

during playback sonar midi track is routed to the Fantom
Fantom is using spdif coax into the emu0404
Sonar is using E-mu0404 USB 1/2
during playback there is a crackling noise coming out of the headphones.

With the Sonar audio engine OFF I can play on the fantom  with no noise
Mute midi tracks to fantom and session drummer 3 sonar track play without noise.

did the options.audio. mising latency shuffle and that didn't help

Any ideas would be greatly apprectiated.

dazed and confused.

Are you clipping?? Playback and just playing a synth are 2 different things. When you just play a synth without recording, your levels are controlled with everytihng before it hits sonar. When its recorded and you play it back, sonar control the level. So are you clipping it??? Are you lclipping yout tracks? master bus? Main outs??
    Something is clipping

Had an echo  input turned on one of the audio tracks.

Your post helped me to go back and look at it one more time and ther is was laughing at me.

    Thanks again.

Did you check your main outs? Tracks?
You may want to check for an IRQ Conflict
You may want to raise your ASIobuffers or WDm latency
You may want to make sure you have the latest emu drivers
You may want to check and see that the emu is set to amster and the fantom to slave (if thats what you want)
