SONAR, EZ drummer, and Roland TD4 setup advice.please.

Hi Jeff. When you open the EZ mixer I believe in the upper left there is a drop down box. Select multi channel. On the lower portion of the mixer you can also assign specfic tracks to specific drums. Track 1 = kick, 2 = snare and so on.
I believe this is what your asking for. However, I also have the Latin Percussion kit, and you have to assign your specific roland pads to it. The way I did it was to open the kit so that I'm viewing it, then on your TD4 module go to assign note. You will see that as you select different midi notes on the module that it will control different parts of the latin percussion kit. When your finished assigning the midi notes, save it.
I actually have saved kit 2 on my td so that it controls my Latin percussion kit. Kit one controls my Nashville kit and so on.

I use a Roland TD-12 kit with EZ-Drummer and Superior 2.  I much prefer Superior 2 with the roland kit as I think they've built Superior 2 with electronic kits in mind.  EZ-Drummer will work, but you might be disappointed in the midi capturing with regards to the hi-hat (specifically open/opening/closing/closed detail).

Now with that said, you will be able to capture your TD-4 into Sonar via mapped midi notes to the kit in EZ-Drummer.

Im new at this....
Ive downloaded the template zip. Is this something that I dont already have within EZ. Would I load this into my project and all is setup for the Roland TD4?

+1 For CJ's advice.....

Another one to consider is XLN audios Addictive drums....great sounds, and with the new Adrenaline update, vdrums are mapped very easily.

My drummer prefers the default sounds of addictive drums.....but superior has more sound shaping flexibility

another thumbs up for superior here. I used EZD for a couple of years, I guess, then got a $80USD cross grade offer for Superior, did it, and have been amazed. Everything everyone has said here is true, and then some.  The real difference is the hi-hat, and that, with superior 2.0, is really something. EZD just never was gonna really work for hats. I just had to keep it simple. much less so with S2.0.

Kepp an eye out for those cheap crossgrades from toontrack.

Well, hate to make it a Superior fest but the product is just amazing. For country, pop, jazz or R&B I dare you to track a better sound in a home studio. You have access to the best drum kits in the best drum rooms using the best gear on the planet. It works flawlessly with the Roland e-drums.

I do use EZ for tracking however because it loads fast and then later I convert to Superior for mixing.
 
Watched the video too. Don't drink and record is all I can say. Songs like that may never get written.
