Sonar > Sound Fonts > SoundMAX Digital Audio
Hi There, my name is Luiz from Brazil, and for now, I don´t want nothing special. I compose my melodies and harmonies in GUITAR PRO 4, ´cause for me is very pratice and simple, but the sound becomes very very bad. A friend, makes the transition using Sonar + Sound Fonts and the result appears very good for my needs. So whats the problem? In my PC I don´t have Sound Blaster, I have SoundMAX Intagrated Digital Audio (from ASUS p4800D), and wanna know some similar of Sound Fonts to tranform de MIDI AUDIO exported in GUITAR PRO 4, to a "almost real" sound in SONAR. Someone can help me? Thank You :) Luiz Dias Brazil

You can try sfz, which is free from this website. The software lets you play soundfonts. http://www.rgcaudio.com Good luck. JeffN

I do not not what IQC is, but just click on the tab for "products" and it will take to the link to download sfz. JeffN

Now you need to download some soundfonts that have instruments you enjoy. Search Google for "free soundfont" and you'll find hundreds. Some are good, some are terrible, a few are really nice. Some companies sell soundfonts that might be better than free ones (but they might not, the buyer must be careful). Here is a thread on KvR that has a few links... :-D ... plus lots of advice and opinions. http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28724 Good luck! Meffy

Insterad of playing the soundfonts throught SoundBlaster's soundfont player, you will use the sfz. It is a far higher quality soundfont player than the soundblaster card from what I understand. Your integrated soundcard (the Soundmax) is still used, but it does not include the function of playing soundfonts directly. JeffN

With all this talk of soundfont players I thought I'd ask a.....weird question. I have an Sb Audigy and it comes with a Creative Soundfont Bank Managers(player). I was messing around with this and accidently deleted the default soundfont that was loaded on one of the banks and replaced with what happened to be the worst trumpet sound I have ever heard. Once I did that (keep in mind it was an accident)...I listened to a .mid file and all the sounds were trumpets. To remedy this I downloaded a piano soundfont (which also happened to be pretty crappy...sigh..im always getting the worst soundfonts) um anyway, I replaced the trumpet with the piano so it wouldnt be so annoying to listen to. Obviously this is only a temporary solution, what can i do to fix this? All .mid files are now just playing piano sounds.....If this is too confusing just let me know.

If this is too confusing just let me know not confusing at all . You probably didn't really " accidently deleted the default soundfont that was loaded on one of the banks " - you just replaced it , you can load one of the banks that came with the card installation , their names ( these are GM banks.. General Midi ) are usually something like "Ct2mgm.sf2" .. or other amount of sample memory like 4mb or 8mb.. Browse and load these just like you loaded the SINGLE INSTRUMENT "banks" that you tried , the full banks are usually in the Windows dir . if you can't find them you can always find some good ones here - http://www.hammersound.net/
