Sonar 5 / 32 vs 64 bit - remedial question

I am buying a new computer in a couple of weeks.  Will Sonar 5 and my 32 bit plug-ins run under Windows 7 / 64 bit?  Down the road I plan on upgrading to Sonar 8.5 but the upgrade from 5 to 8.5 is $250 and additionally, I’d like to finish off a couple of my current projects in 5.

Thanks for your help,
Dave

32-bit programs run on a 64-bit system. I've run programs as old as Word 2000 on my 64-bit system, so I'd think Sonar 5 should  run. It's worth a try. Upgrade when you can, though; the current Sonar has tons of new features and workflow improvements as well as being available in 64-bit.

    Thank You!

Yes, from what I gathered in this forum 8.5 / 32 will run on a 64 bit system … just not sure about Sonar 5.  So, as you suggest, I think I will just go ahead and have Windows 7 / 64 installed on the machine and “hope” it runs.

I don’t want to be in a situation where I have to re-install an OS when I do move up to 8.5

When I install a new OS I make Acronis images at every main step along the way, ie:
    Windows only
    Windows with device drivers
After install of music programs but before internet--well, basically after any long install I know I don't want to repeat .
That way if something goes wrong along the way, I don't have to start from scratch each time, and I don't have to reactivate Windows.

If you don't have Acronis, you can use Windows 7 built-in backup, but it is slow, and AFAIK does not use compression, so the images are big. There's also Macrium Reflect, which has a free version.

Thanks, I just upgraded to a new computer and I hope Sonar 5 works on Windows 7.
