Routing Audio to midi, is possible?

Hi. Im user of the cakemusicreator, and i have been playing with the sonar7demo. I want to know if Sonar is able to route signals between tracks or they are fixed, i mean, by example, i want to use an "audio-to-midi" plugin, so it receive the audio signal and it need to send the midi signal to a sampler.
Is that possible? I dont figure how in the demo, but maybe is because the demo limitations.
Thanks in advance.

Its not clear what you're trying to do. Sonar's routing is very flexible. It would not make sense to route audio to midi, per se. Theoretically it is possible to convert audio to midi - V-Vocal is supposed to do this but is not good at it - and if you have a VST plug in that does that conversion, Sonar has the ability to take midi info from that VST and send it to a MIDI plug in. That is, with a properly functioning VST plugin, Sonar can take MIDI output from it and send it to another track.

Edit: or, to be more clear, you can put an audio effect on an audio track that creates MIDI output and you can send that MIDI output to a MIDI track. Is this what you mean?

It may depend on how the audio-to-midi plugin works. If it creates a virtual midi output that can be selected as the input to any midi track or software synth track. Sonar can select any port for input and output on any MIDI or Software synth track so there is no limit there.

So if the plugin works the way I think it will work there is no notion of going directly from an audio track to a software synth track, that wouldn't do anything but the plugin should spit the midi out a virtual port so it can be used any way MIDI can be used.

Assuming it's a VST plug-in, the following procedure should work:

    - Tools > Cakewalk Plug-in Manager
    - select "VST Audio Effects", select your plug-in in the list
    - click "Plug-in Properties" (under "VST Configuration")
    - check "Configure as Synth", click OK - close Plug-in Manager
    - right-click in the FX-bin of the audio track you want to convert
    - "Soft Synths", choose your plug-in
    - open Synth Rack (click the toolbar button or go Views > Synth Rack or hit Alt-8)
    - right-click on the background of the plug or below its name, check "Enable MIDI Output"
    - on the sampler MIDI track set input to the plug-in and enable input echo

The plug-in must be configured as a synth, otherwise you cannot enable the MIDI-out for it. Once that's done, the plug-in appears as a MIDI port in the track input menu and can be used just like a regular MIDI device. See also "Recording a Soft Synth's MIDI Output" in the online-help.

What do I do if the enable MIDI output is grayed out and I cannot click it?
