Fireface UC
Hi. Anyone using the Fireface UC? I need a USB device to replace a Layla 24 (with old laptop adaptor). This thing looks hopeful. Thoughts? Many thanks CC

Many thanks CC The Fireface UC offers the same features/performance as the Fireface 400. One of two USB audio interfaces that offer (low) round-trip latency on par with the best PCI/e and Firewire units. Excellent choice...

The other one Jim has been talking about is This One from M-Audio. Yes, that's the one... The FastTrack Ultra 8R delivers total round-trip latency of 5.5ms at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size/44.1k. The unit has solid Win7x64 drivers... and works well under heavy loads. I wouldn't have believed it... had I not experienced it first hand.

Hi Jim, Do you think M-Audio's FastTrack Ultra has the same round-trip latency of its bigger brother, the 8R, since they both have similar on-board MX Core™ DSP mixer? If yes, that would be a cheaper alternative for those who don't need all the 8R features. Regards, Chuck

just my two cents , but latency is one thing (owner here of fireface 400 ,vs 100 , vs 700 , ua1g) and i have damn low latency with my cakewalks too , but drivers quality is anotha thing , so go fireface uc or baby and stay away from m audio !!

FastTrack Ultra Thanks everyone. This I feel I can say from experience: It was the 3rd Fast Track Ultra I took home that finally decided to work, but only then when hanging out of one specific USB port, and only then if I boot in the correct sequence. It has a list of boot instructions taped to the top resembling the anti-gravity toilet instructions in 2001, A Space Odyssey. It does work, but I only keep it for emergencies. CC

so go fireface uc or baby and stay away from m audio !! RME is great... no doubt about that But the FastTrack Ultra 8R does have rock-solid Win7x64 drivers. I've been using one to play live gigs... (set at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size for super tight timing while triggering about a dozen soft-synths). Not a single hiccup in many hours of rehearsal and being on stage...
