simple MIDI question

alright heres my question.

i have a MIDI keyboard, and my friend has a yamaha MOTIF.

can i record my keyboard on a MIDI track, then connect my laptop to the MOTIF later on and use the sound banks from the MOTIF? that would make things much easier on me.

just wondering if that works, it seems to me that it should.
