How to step through the patches of Fantom VS?!?
Does anybody know how to step through the patches of the Fantom VS? I find it very time consuming the way it is described in the manual by opening up subfolders and subfolders using the mouse! It's the VS-700! There MUST be another way, too...! (e.g. like using the arrow keys (around the jogwheel). At least it works with most of the plug ins that way but unfortunately not in the Fantom VS) Please, can anybody help? regards, bensterol

Open up the Fantom VS editor, click on the mixer page, you'll see 16 channels. On each channel near the slider you'll see the patch name in a slot. Near the top of channel you'll see the box with an arrow naming the patch there. Open the dropdown menu and all the patches will be there in their categories. I'm not sure of how to do it with the V700C control surface. Use the mouse until you find that path in the instructions.

Hi Crg, thanks! That brings me closer to what I am looking for BUT actually I find it still inconvenient to do it that way. A simple button for next or previous patch would be it! It actually does not matter if the button is only software or could be configured on the console which would certainly the best option though...! Anybody an idea how to set this up? Maybe anybody from Cakewalk?!? regards, Bensterol

You can then step through them by using the + & - keys on the numeric keypad. Be sure to keep the patch list widget selected while stepping thru them You can find the definitions and instructions for installing them here... http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx?ID=2007012927 -eB

using this method doesn't update the vst , it's like basicaly usin the hardware like an external sound modul !! the bank organistaion is for me a mess , i prefer the organisation in the tones by genre (synth , bass , brass , pads ....) but it's already cool like that

Yes..it could definitely be better, the vsti editor is very static right now. They should at least add GUI widgets for stepping thru the sounds. They should also allow you to assign this function via ACT. Having to manually select the banks is a pain, but if you look at them closely you'll notice that they are pretty much organized by instrument/genre type. You could even rename the banks to be more descriptive of which instrument types they contain using the instrument definition editor in SONAR. You could then assign each bank to its own track and then be able to switch banks by selecting tracks. I've created a 16-track track folder for the V-studio and saved it into my Normal template. I then disabled the Fantom VS in the Synth rack so that it doesn't need to initialize every time I open SONAR. While writing this I just discovered a cool way to step thru ALL of the V-studio patches without needing to switch between banks! Basically, you just double-click a Fantom VS MIDI track and click the little 'Patch Browser' icon. If you don't type anything in the search box you can select and step thru ALL of V-studio patches using the up/down arrow keys. Of course you can also narrow them down with keywords. What is even cooler is that you can also use the up/down arrows on the console to step thru the patches. One thing I'm a bit curious about is whether the Fantom VS can load 3rd-party sound banks. The hardware handles this via USB sticks I believe. I would be somewhat disappointed to find out that we're limited to using the included sounds even as amazing as they are. -eB

Crg The hardware handles this via USB sticks I believe. Please elaborate on that. I've found several sites online that sell sounds for the Fantom G series keyboards. They also mention that the sounds are loaded into the synths via USB drives. (Heres one of the sites... http://www.sinevibes.com/fantom-g/ )If the Fantom VS can't load other sounds its not really a true synth but more along the lines of a sample player. ARX is nice, but its no substitute for being able to load 3rd-party sounds. Not to mention that the current ARX modules are ridiculously over-priced for the current synth market. Consider this...you can buy the entire Sampletank suite, Omnisphere or Kontakt for the price of one ARX module. -eB

You can save and load your own patches via the Fantom VS Editor... not sure if that would be the same file format though. Scott -- Scott R. Create the patches in the G6, transfer them to the computer, load them from the Fantom Editor? Or put them on a USB Flash drive and load them that way? Haven't tried that yet, it should work depending on the patch format. By the way, there's an instrument definition for the Fantom VS you should load into your instrument definitions and point the Fantom to .
