Computer Desk

I've been on the hunt for the perfect computer desk for my needs. This desk has been proven to be quite elusive so far. Here's what I need ...

- Computer keyboard tray
- Desktop large enough to accommodate an Oxygen 49 and an amp
- A shelve on the back, higher up that can hold 2 KRK Rokit 8s (at ear level) and my mammoth 21-inch clunker of a monitor.
- Be less than $200

The extra shelve would be nice, but I'm fine with using small speaker stands that are "reasonably" priced to get the monitors at ear level.

This one might do the trick: http://www.guitarcenter.c...on-542052-i1421445.gc. But I'm afraid the top shelve isn't large enough to fit the speakers and my screen. I know my old monitor is outdated, and I should invest in a flat-panel, but this thing still works. I don't want to spend money on something I already have.

This is also nice: http://www.guitarcenter.c...sk-546550-i1152461.gc. But it doesn't come with a flipping keyboard tray, ugh! I looked for trays, and they are ridiculously expensive, being that it's just a piece of wood with two brackets.

I'm not a carpenter, so I don't feel confident enough to build my own. I'm hoping some of you have found affordable ways to get a decent desk in the house. I think there's a lot of fleecing going on with this sort of stuff.

Thanks!

Did you spill something on your keyboard, or are you just happy to chat with me?

I agree studio desks seem waaay over priced.

I have been looking around for a new desk and am thinking about this Ikea combination which should run about 200.

I cant find the components online but I have seen in-store a monitor shelf (wood plus 4 legs, or more if you need to support the weight of a crt). I figured on getting a keyboard tray off amazon for cheap.

I recently downloaded sketchup to play around with and had made a mockup. This should give you a rough idea of size.

    Build your own.

If I can do it, anyone can do it!

Just don't fall into the trap of making it too big!

I did, and had to saw it in half to get it up the stairs.

Well, I might take a shot at it, but after looking at the IKEA site, I saw a few "cheap" options that can be easily modified.

    Thanks!

I agree these things are generally overpriced.

Build baby build. A daw desk is easy. You'll get what you want that way. I did, and I'm very happy with the results.
