i3 vs i5?

Im gonna build a desktop to step up my home studio...
these are the things im gonna use...

mother board-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131620

RAM-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231323

im looking for either an i3 or i5 cpu, the question is which would be better?
a dual-core i3 that has HT ($139.99)
or a dual core i5 that has HT ($184.99-$280 for 280 id rather buy a corei7...)
or a quad-core i5 without HT ($199.99) but has 4 real cores as oppoosed to 2 real and 2 viirtual cores...

this is where im at right now...

i dont quite think id need a core i7 for my projects, unless the benefit FAR exceeds the price difference...

thanks for the help!

i3/i5 dual cores are pretty slow right there with AMD 965 (Barely)

the i5 Quad 750 is far better this is the lowest i would go unless you are doing lite duty.
the i7 860 even better but then as you said you can buy a 920

is the 80 dollar difference between the i5 quad and i7 860 worth it?
i think i remember reading the only difference between a i5 quad and a i7 is the i5 doesnt have HT...
    thanks

    i5 750 is 4 cores @ 2.66
    i7 860 is 4 cores @ 2.8 plus HT so 8 cores.
but again if doing the 860 might as well do the 920.
the 920 outperforms both and the 870.
