sampling rate help

Hi from melbourne Australia.
I have just purchased a studio 100 but i am having some teething problems.
It wont let me set the sampling rate to 96mhz.
it tells me that one or more of my sound cards is inappropriate.
Other than the vs-studio 100 i have a standard sound card in my desk computer but i have made the v-studio the default sound card but it still
wont work. so i can only get a sampling rate of 44mhz.
can someone help please????

You can't set the sample rate from the driver.  Unplug the VS-100, go into the local Utility Menu and change it there.   Then re-connect.

I'd recommend that you go back to using your computer's sound card for the O/S and use the VS-100 only for audio.

No problem, Jack.  I think that the sampling rate should be adjustable from the driver.

    Hi Jack.

All of us here are learning to some degree or other so never be afraid to ask a question, that's the point.  When one person does not know all the answer, chances are someone else will fill in the blanks...

So here's my understanding...very simplistic view...not technical 'cauese I dont know...

They are the default channels from your main/default device that have playback and recording occur through and that the timing (ticks) are transmitted through.  Exactly what the "timing master" means technically???, I will bow to a more authoritive person or personages.  The key thing is to make sure that in here is your default device and your default channels....as I understand it.

    Anyone...???

The digital audio that goes in and out of Sonar is a set of audio samples that are regularly spaced in time.  Clock signals are used to keep Sonar and the hardware in synchronization time-wise.

Normally, the master clock (timing master) is set by the Wave Profiler to the first channel in your audio device.  This is the setting you want for the VS-100.

Sometimes you have to override this setting if you have multiple audio interfaces or if you need to sync to a s/pdif input from another device.  The VS-100 will auto-switch its internal clock to the s/pdif (labelled coax on the VS-100) channel when you connect a signal to it.  So there's no need to change the timing master in Sonar.
