MP What tha . . . !
I've read older posts about this type problem, but I started a new one in "hopes" that there's been a break-through of miracle proportions. Since upgrading to SPE 8.5.3, when I want to export to MP3, I am told to contact Cakewalk and "upgrade an older version", or active my current one. I have the activation download, which worked for ever in all previous versions. It confirms activation. But, it lies! No such luck. Do I really have to re-purchase the MP3 encoder software, or is there "a trick" out there for me to learn. I'd prefer not to do the LAME download, but I'll take suggestions. (I went to the LAME site and got confused as to where the proper download is) Thanks Fellow Cakers.

If you're running 64-bit you'll need to download the update patch...

Where will I find this update? I've searched for an encoder update, but no luck. I checked and my account confirms my activation download, which I have run, every which way but . . . Thanks for the assist.

Not sure. I don't use the CW MP3 encoder. Send an email to tech support. You should get a response within 48 hours. EDIT: Just found this in another thread on the subject: There is a separate MP3 Encoder activator for 64Bit versions of windows and 32Bit versions. You needto contact Cakewalk and tell them you need the MP3 Activator for 64it windows. They will email you adownload link for the 64Bit version of the MP3 Activator.

Why bother with all this licensed MP3 Bullsh*t? Why pay for a license to use the MP3 codec when you can use L.A.M.E. for free?

Mainly, because I already paid. So it's the principle I suppose. I can wait a day or so for the link.

For reference, the x64 activator works on both x86 and x64 SONAR. I requested and received a copy of the activator over a year ago when I was still using x86 SONAR. They didn't ask which version I was using, and the activator they sent me at that time also worked on x64 SONAR when I migrated to Win7. So the x64 activator is not "separate" per se, just a new version that accommodates both versions of SONAR.

The download available from the site after purchase is 32 bit. I had to request a 64 bit. This was last month. Cakewalk really should make both available together in a .zip, or if the 64 does work on both then eliminate the other to avoid this confusion.

Fret Wizz Why bother with all this licensed MP3 Bullsh*t? Why pay for a license to use the MP3 codec when you can use L.A.M.E. for free? Ironically, the Cake encoder is based in Lame as well. Unfortunately an older version and from the speed of it not the 64bit version...

Hey, I've been away and forgot to "end" this thread; I finally got a reply from cakewalk. The file they sent me did, in fact, do the trick and I am now back exporting MP3s. This "new" version does work in 64bit. So the moral is: ask and it will come. I paid once, and, Once is all I'm gonna pay
