Top 10 libraries for Kontakt?

Besides the obvious EWQL, Symphobia, Morphestra

Any genre... Which are comparable two these 3 in quality?? (made for Kontakt)

I know it's all subjective, but... let's see who agrees on what. :)

I really enjoy ethnic sounds, so I would have to say EW-RA. Though one must admit what I have heard from East West puts them number one in my book.

Not sure about the top 10, but Native Instruments themselves have been putting out a ton of libraries lately, which all sound good...

I guess I should have reworded it.

The best Library makers!! :)

When I said EW was one of the obvious leaders...I meant all of their libraries. I didn't mention the other obvious choice.. NI..because I am talking about Kontakt, so I figured that was a given.

so...any other library "makers"?? Top 5 maybe?

Tonehammer Epic Dohl is one of the best percussion libraries I've come across.

Project SAM True Strike 2 is a really good percussion library.

Sonivox Flying Hand Percussion is one of my favorite percussion libraries.

Project SAM Brass is a really good collection of orchestral brass. Very usable.

VSL Epic Horns I bought this when it was a separate Kontakt library and it's still the ballsiest brass library around. Dry and massive sounding.

Tonehammer Propanium is one of the best sampled instruments. It's just really fun to use.

Soniccouture Gu Zheng probably the best sampled zither anywhere.

Native Instruments Abbey Road 60s Drums although I just got this, it has been impressive. The sounds are really good.

Bela D Media The Giovani Edition is one my favorite choir libraries.

Soniccouture Pan Drum a really, really good sampled hang drum.

it so depends on what you are after.. :)

i general, i like soniccoutoure alot and also http://www.store.precisionsound.net/  havent gotten any tonehammer libraries, but the demos sound good.
project sam truestrike 2 is another favourite of mine, Tsaiko and Impact Steel are fun, but because of the work I do these days, it is mostly all East Wests Orchestra (the old kontakt lib, not the new Play one).

I think it would be useful (certainly to me!) if everyone listed what kind of copy protection these libraries use.
Also, do the recent EWQL libraries have to be used in PLAY, or can they in fact be used in Kontakt as well?

I like the prices--very reasonable! And it will load in Kontakt; doesn't need its own engine. One thing I can't find--what kind of copy protection  precisionsound uses. Do you know, Scott?

AFAIK, all Kontakt libs use the Service Centre, so no dongle for any of them.

As well as the mighty Symphobia, I'm a huge fan of Orange Tree Samples - their Strawberry Guitar and Cherry Bass are excellent.  Pettinhouse also do fantastic guitars and basses.  Love Cinesamples Hollywoodwinds.  Anything from Tonehammer will be good.

And continue to love EWQL's original Stormdrum, still used almost daily here.

Yeah, they have some nice libraries. I don't know about the copy protection, but as Noiseboy said it would either have to be the same as Kontakt or none at all.

Best,

Re:Top 10 libraries for Kontakt? 2010/03/20 10:25:44 (permalink)
well specific libraries is hard to define, that's a personal choice based on the music you create, however, I've become a big fan of small, specialized libraries, and for that sort of thing I highly recommend browsing the following sites:
ToneHammer
MicroHammer
Soniccouture
Sonokinetic
CineSamples

You'll likely still need a couple of larger libraries for things like strings, brass, etc. I have not settled on any yet, but I've pretty much narrowed the field, for my purposes anyway, to:
Chris Hein- just amazing brass
Kirk Hunter - some of the coolest strings I've ever heard
Bela D Media - beautiful choirs and some really cool instruments

There are also some uber-large specialized libraries, like LA Scoring Strings, but I think that sort of thing probably needs to wait, at least for me, till I've covered all the other bases - besides which I still have Garritan's original Orchestral String Library for Giga, which is still amazing!

And, don't overlook Native Instrument's own offerings. I only own one so far, their Sax&Brass library, but it is absolutely amazing. You can get a cut down version for the free Kore player (that's what I did) but it will just leave you wanting more!

Have fun!

. Include all kind of sounds:
  • Bass (acoustic, synth…)
  • Classic Grand Piano
  • Drum Machines
  • Electric Piano
  • GM Drum Kits
  • Guitars (nylon, acoustic & steel)

Re:Top 10 libraries for Kontakt? 2017/10/14 18:48:06 (permalink)
I really like:
Cinematic Studio Strings
Fluffy Audio - Woodwinds and Dominus Choir
Art Vista's Malmjo GVI Piano
Cinesamples Tina Guo Cello Legato
Realitone's Blue and Ladies
Zero-G's Ethera
Orange Tree Samples Guitars
Impact Soundworks' Orchestral Percussion (I like a lot of stuff by this company)
Heavyocity's Gravity (I have the Vocalise and Scoring Guitars Packs)
Embertone is a generally a great company

Also, although this is about Kontakt, I would add that more and more of my favorite stuff can be found in the free UVI player, like for example Virharmonic's Bohemian Violin and AcousticSamples' Sunbird Guitar.

And finally, as I think you all know, Tonehammer went out of business in 2011, splitting up into 8Dio (Troels Folmann) and Soundiron (Mike Peaslee).

8DIO
Auddict
FluffyAudio

There are so many decent it's hard to "narrow them down"

While I agree with Fleer's list, there are a bunch of not as large Kontakt library makers that are equally worthwhile.  Here is a few (though not every one):
8dio
Homegrown Sounds
Indiginus
Strezov Sampling
Atom Hub
CL-Projects
Frozen Plain
Sample Logic
