    If you do not have the VS-100 plugged into the computer and you keyboard make sound all on its own:

    The easiest thing you can do is use the Mono 1/4" jack or 1/4" headphone jack on the keyboard and input into the 1/4" jack on track 1.  Adjust the levels on the front and top until you see the bars on the lcd show that you are getting the signal. Hook up your headphones and listen to set you levels on the VS-100. Teh hit record and you should be recording. Make sure you formatted the SD card. There are easy instructions in you manual and online for this.

    If the VS-100 is plugged into you computer but your keyboard make noise all on its own then you just select an new Audio track using +. The using the drop down menu on the track select inputs/outputs, if your using the 1/4" jack on line 1 then select VS-100 Mono line 1 (or something like that). Hit the record button on the tarck and you should see the input bar going up and down. The hit record and you should be recording the line.

    If you have the VS-100 hooked up to your computer (which is necessary if you have a Midi keyboard):

    You have to do a lot of setup for the keyboard. You should consult the manual. You need to select the control surface etc. Once you have sound coming out of the keyboard (through your computer) then recording is pretty easy. To make noise you'll already have selected an instrument, so you just record.

    Hope that helps.

    From the "mini to midi wire to the VS-100" comment  I'm guessing that you want to record the sound that the keyboard is producing?? is this right?  Unfortunatly Midi does not carry any actual sounds, it only carries instructions for a sound producing module (like the one in your keyboard or a soft synth in the computer).  So the sound from the keyboard can be recorded as per the first part of choppers message.  Do you have a 1/4" jack lead?
    Let us know how you go.

    OK we now know what you want...thy the following step by step.
    1. Make sure there is an SD card in the slot, turn on the VS-100 and ensure the unit is not hooked into the computer with the usb (this will automatically set it to SD recording mode);
    2. Turn the VS-100 channel "SENS" (volume) knob to about 20~30 percent, turn the channel Level knob (on the top surface in channel 1 to about ~50 percent and ensure that the Hi-Z button on channel 1 is out (not engaged).  Make sure the COMP button on channel 1 is off and leave the pan knob in the centre.;
    3. Use the 1/4 lead to connect the headphone out from the PSR to Channel 1 phono connection at the front left of the VS-100;
    4. Turn on the PSR;
    5. Turn up the headphone volume on the PSR to about 60~80 percent;
    6. Play a note on the PSR and check the control window on the VS-100.  The left most meter bar will desplay the strength of the signal coming in from the PSR.  Turn the "SENS" (volume) up or down to get the meter bars on the left hand side of the meter window to hit the 80% level when you play a chord with a bit of vigor.  If the Sens knob gets up to near the 100% mark then back it off to say 80% and start to increase the Level knob on channel 1 to get the meter to the right spot.  When this is done you have a good quality signal level coming into the VS from your PSR.
    7. The next step is to make sure the stereo mix going to the SD card is ok.  Check the pair of meter bars second from the right in the meter window (with WAV) under them.  Adjust the "Main Mix" knob until these are peaking around the 80%, try to make sure they dont peak at all.  For now just set and forget, don't ride the knob (make small adjustments on the fly).
    8. You should be ready to capture your Dad's prefornance.  Well Done.  Monitor using whatever you normally use (headphones/speakers).
    Murray, have I missed anything???

    Mick,  your post was fine, except that the PSR-1000 has line outs and headphone outs.  Since the headphone outs need a Y cable, it's easier to use the line outs.  But I re-read this thread and think there are some basics that need to be covered.  So, a little more help for the op:
    ---------------------------------------

    qassimriyadh,

    The VS-100 can record audio or MIDI from the keyboard.  Since you are just getting started, let's get you recording audio first.  You can record MIDI later.

    So the first thing to do is to disconnect the MIDI cables and put them away.  That will simplify things a lot.  No computer either.

    The next thing to do is to connect the keyboard to the VS-100.  For stereo, connect the L output on the PSR (it's labelled 'L + R/L' on the non-Arabic version of the PSR-1000)  to the line input of ch 1 on the front panel and the R output to ch 2 line input.  If you only have one cable, connect the  'L + R/L'  output to ch 1 of the VS-100 and turn channel 2 sensitivity all the way down.

    Now that you've got it hooked up, you can follow Mick's instructions.  The "Wave Recorder" chapter in the manual is a good reference.

    Good luck.
