If the machine is still functional, consider donating. Provides use for other folks... and it's a tax write-off.

Maybe I'm just spam paranoid, but the first two responses seem a bit too pat. First and only post for each, one pretty close after the other. And given that the OP didn't state which country, it seems a bit convenient that the response went for a .au domain. Frankly, when I read "victoria" I thought "Canada", not "Australia." But that's just my North American bias I guess. Whew, way too much analysis on my part...

if i may ask (never seen someone ask this) why? why not set it out to the curb? Wow, man..where are you living. In my rural community circuit boards, monitors, keyboards etc. are considered hazardous waste (lead, cadmium etc.) and must be either recycled or taken to special facilities for disposal. The state has enacted a tax on new computers to cover the cost of their disposal through certified recyclers. There are fines (and in egregious large scale cases jail time) for mixing them in with the trash.

are you serious? where are you living? i live in KY USA. old computers just get kicked to the curb. be danged if i am paying to "dispose" of a computer only state i know thats that anal is CA. i pitched a fit when i drop shipped a monitor to CA and got charged a recycling fee. i knew not to use that vendor again for drop ships to CA. took all my profit when you go to a local store around here they do not charge that goofy recycling fee.

But the number of places with laws on electronic waste disposal is growing, and federal laws have been introduced a number of times. http://www.ecyclingresource.org/ContentPage.aspx?Pageid=28&ParentID=0 P. S. Most of these laws would apply to those compact florescents that are supposed to be replacing the incandescent bulbs in the near future.

California has nothing on the European Union. If you happen to attempt to import anything into an EU country be ready to provide RoHS certificates + REACH documentation that requires a specific % of total weight for hundreds of chemicals on an ever expanding list all on top of the WEE recycling requirements. If you ever go global Scott, you're in for a heap of paperwork.
