USB 2 Question

I have friend who only has USB 2 as an audio interface option on his Laptop.  It is a new Laptop, with lots of power for running Sonar Producer 8.5. We have played some of my large projects on this laptop.

His primary use will be soft sythns Dim Pro, Rapture, etc,  Since he will be doing most of his tracks with soft synths, my question is....

Can he get low latency in real time via USB 2?  I use a card interface and I have no latency so I have no experience using the USB 2.  I'm trying to find out for him what the possiblities are limitations are use USB 2 for his purposes.

He also intends to use the Sonar soft synths as a front end for live playing as well.   He has Windows 7

Thanks for any input as well as any suggestions for a good USB 2 interface, preamp.

Yes. Other factors have vastly more impact on latency than USB. Even USB 1.1 is fast enough if you're only recording 1 or 2 channels simultaneously. And of course if you're using primarily soft synths then USB is a total non-issue anyway.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
