To use the UA-25EX for direct monitoring, its needs to be powered through the USB connection so the computer needs to be turned on.
If you wanted to jam along with tunes, you may look at something similar to a Tascam MP3 Trainer (I use the bass trainer for practice. Holds about 200 mp3s, can change song keys w/out slowing down or speeding up, and can loop sections. Runs on an internal battery that is either charged with an optional charger or by plugging into the usb for a bit - like a smart phone. About 1.5x the size too.)
Or get something like a Pandora...not exactly sure what's out there that is keyboard specific, or you could probably look at ones made for guitar.
If you have powered monitors, you may be able to run the line out of the headphone amp to the in of the monitors. I've done this with the effects return on my bass rig. I don't have powered monitors yet.
